March 20, 2011 marked the first day of spring as The Bay Area Runners Club presented the 38th Annual Al Kayner's St. Patrick's Day Race on parade day in Bay City.
The St. Patrick's Day Race has become a staple for Midwest runners and is a perfect way to celebrate the return of another beautiful Spring to Mid-Michigan.
Race start and finish was held at the corner of Adams and Center in Downtown Bay City.
With an overcast sky and temperatures in the mid 30's, it was colder then expected, but no one could complain. The rain held off until both the race and parade were completed. Everyone was in great spirits and sported green and Irish attire. Nearly 5000 participated in this year's race.
Race Director Ann Gasta, said, "It was a wonderful day and it went better then I expected!" Gasta also participated in the race, and placed second in her age group with a time of 23:22.
Gasta continued, "Everything 'ran smoothly' with tremendous help from my staff and volunteers . . . A big thanks to all of them!"
