Food, Fun, and Festivity on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in downtown Frankenmuth.
The Frankenmuth Farmers Market (FFM) will start its seventh year of food, fun, and festivity on Saturday, May 21, 2011 in downtown Frankenmuth. With the mission to entertain, enrich, and educate growers and consumers as they trade local products and information, the Market runs 8am-2pm Saturdays May 21 to October 15, 2011.
Special events and a newly added weekday Market will round out the schedule, with a Christkindlmarkt (traditional European Christmas Market) to span the course of both Thanksgiving Weekend and the following weekend, November 25-27 and December 2-4, 2011. Free parking is behind the Market, near Cass and Main Streets. All dates are as follows:
8am-2pm Saturdays, May 21 - October 15 in Downtown Frankenmuth - Regular Saturday Market
3pm-6pm Wednesdays, July 20 - September 14 at Frankenmuth Credit Union - Wednesday Market
August 20 at FFM - Annual Pig Roast Sponsored by Zehnder's Restaurant
September 13 at Zehnder's Restaurant - Feast of the Harvest Moon Annual Dinner
10am-9pm Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am-5pm Sundays, November 25-27 and December 2-4 - FFM Christkindlmarkt in Downtown Frankenmuth
Billed as one of ten "must see" markets in Michigan by Michigan Travel Ideas, the FFM is a producer-only market supporting local farmers and the regional economy. Live music sponsored by Frankenmuth Credit Union, adult and children events, and artists create a festival of community each market day.
Last year's inaugural weekday market in midsummer and the third-Saturday-of-each-month Harvest for the Hungry (fresh or pantry food/monetary donation for Hidden Harvest) will continue this year. The FFM's 7th, 2011 season will focus on convenience and conviviality with further-reaching promotions and special events.
July will be 'Market Month' as an exciting program of promoting local foods is introduced. Monthly special events, the publishing of a midsummer Market Magazine, and an expanded Christkindlmarkt mark the market?s continued growth in its seventh year.
The market is looking for set-up, take-down, and booth volunteers, as well as $25 or $50 donations to the Frankenmuth Farmers Market to sponsor daily events. Donations can be mailed to Angela Engelhardt, Market Treasurer, 3175 S. Airport Road, Frankenmuth, MI 48734. Market offerings include fresh, local produce, fresh coffee and soup, organic breads and grains, hand-made soaps, baked goods, herbs, bedding and potted plants, flowers, native Michigan plant species, other spring goods, and more.
Project FRESH and Senior Project FRESH recipients along with all Market-goers will be able to redeem or use EBT/credit/debit cards at the Market. Consumers interested in receiving the FFM's email newsletter can email dbronner@chartermi.net. More information can be found at www.frankenmuthfarmersmarket.org.
The market is a proud charter member of the Michigan Farmers Market Association, which anyone can join to help move farmers markets forward by visiting www.mifma.org.
