An all-you-can-eat pancake extravaganza will start the seventh season of the Frankenmuth Farmers Market (FFM) on Saturday, May 21, 8-11am in Downtown Frankenmuth.

Adding to the Market's trademark food, fun, and festivity on opening day, Chris Cakes of Clare, Michigan will be flipping flapjacks for a $7 all-you-can-eat feast of pancakes, sausage, orange juice, and coffee. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to prevent waiting in line or being sold out. Please call Laurajeanne Kehn at (989) 295-9766 to order tickets with a credit card.

The weekend also features Frankenmuth's World Expo of Beer 5-10pm Friday, May 20 and 3-10pm Saturday, May 21, 2011.

Billed as 'The Fastest Pancake Maker in the World,' Chris Cakes holds the Guinness World Record for the most pancakes made in an hour, 555 pancakes. Through the years, Chris Cakes has flipped over 34 million pancakes for hungry audience members. The pancake production is quite a spectacle, as high-flying flapjacks are flipped far into the air onto diners' plates. FFM farmer Bill Hoffman is providing his locally produced maple syrup for this first-time event, which will raise funds for the Market's mission to entertain, enrich, and educate growers and consumers as they trade local products and information.

The Market runs 8am-2pm Saturdays May 21 to October 15, 2011 next to Harvest Coffeehouse, 618 South Main Street. Free parking is behind the Market, near Cass and Main Streets. While most Market producers live just a few miles away, the Market accepts vendors from only within a 75-mile radius. The opening Market will feature plants, flowers, produce, art, herbs, and much more from Hoffman Farms, Doyle Farm, Miller's Orchard, Beyer Farms, Sommer's Greenhouse, Wiggins' Healthy Home products, Better Finds native Michigan plants, Frankenmuth Herb Society, 4-H and more.

Musician Keith Boesnecker will entertain audiences and the Frankenmuth Public School District will unveil their plans for their new children's garden. Later in the season, a weekday market will run 3-6pm Wednesday, July 20 to September 14 at the Frankenmuth Credit Union.

Named one of ten "must see" markets in Michigan by Michigan Travel Ideas, the FFM is a producer-only market supporting local farmers and the regional economy. Live music sponsored by Frankenmuth Credit Union, adult and children events, and artists create a festival of community each market day.

The Market accepts credit and debit cards along with EBT/Project FRESH/Senior Project FRESH. Consumers interested in receiving the FFM's email newsletter can email dbronner@chartermi.net. More information can be found at www.frankenmuthfarmersmarket.org. The market is a proud charter member of the Michigan Farmers Market Association, which anyone can join to help move farmers markets forward by visiting www.mifma.org.
