The 3rd Annual American Red Cross 'CHALK WALK' was held during the 1st Thursday Gallery Walk in Downtown Bay City on June 2, 2011.

The Event was held from 5pm to 8pm on 3rd St.- between Saginaw St. & Water Street in Downtown Bay City. Artwork from artists of all ages had 3rd Street as bright as a rainbow.

Not only am I showing my support for the American Red Cross, but my art is also on display for the community to see during the 1st Thursdays In Downtown Bay City Gallery Walk. Bellsmith continued, "It's a great event and I can't wait for next year."

The local artists created and expressed the art in vibrant sidewalk chalk drawings to promote Red Cross awareness in our community. Artists ranging from different styles and backgrounds were 'drawn' together to make wonderful masterpieces on downtown sidewalks.

Avram Golden of Golden Gallery & Custom Framing, who is on the committee for the Gallery Walk, said, "It went pretty well, we had a lot of people drawing on the streets downtown which turned out really cool." It's always a good time!, added Golden"

Since 2005, the monthly 1st Thursdays in Downtown Bay City and the accompanying Gallery Walks have been bringing art and the public together by embracing the community's diverse culture and the rich history of the Saginaw River riverfront.

The 1st Thursday events have brought film, poetry, fashion, vintage cars, teen activities, antiques, historical venues, ethnic celebrations, and environmental awareness to this Great Lakes Bay Region. The event also has moved into charitable benefits and foundation fundraisers.

The Gallery Walk on each 1st Thursday provides visitors, shoppers, and art enthusiasts with an ideal opportunity to get away to enjoy local art, shopping, food and drinks, and much more in downtown Bay City.

At those times, the participating art venues collaborate to present new, single-themed exhibits during extended business hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each month, each participating art venue features a new artist's work and offers an opportunity to meet the artist. The Gallery Walk starts at any of the participating downtown locations, where available maps show the full route. Admission is free.
