Bay City is well known for all it's great summertime events and people may find it surprising that one of the longest running events is Downtown Bay City Sidewalk Days. July 21, 22 & 23, 2011.

In good or bad economic times, everyone loves the "hunt" for a great bargain, especially along the sidewalk on a warm summer day!

Urban legend has it that Bay City originated the concept of sales on the sidewalk in front of downtown businesses. And while no evidence of that has been found, there are many who remember the event from the 1950's. Originally titled Sidewalk Sales, this traditional July promotion has evolved into an event over the last decade with a variety of activities added by the Downtown Management Board and the business owners.

"Not only does the local community mark their summer calendar for Sidewalk Days, we're seeing more visitors from outside the area drawn to our city because of this event," says Candace Bales, Executive Director of the Downtown Management Board and Development Authority.

Thirty-six businesses are participating this year and some of the special activities during the 3-day event include ...
