The adage "A picture is worth a thousand words" refers to the idea that a complex idea can be conveyed with just a single still image.

It also aptly characterizes one of the main goals of visualization, namely making it possible for almost anyone to absorb large amounts of data quickly.

Since I was a teenager, I always had a camera with me at any event/occasion and with family and/or friends gathering. Especially every Sunday at the motocross track with my brothers. I never was interested in professional photography, just snapshots to capture 'The Moment' It was fun to reminisce with friends & family afterward.

I realized how important this was at the passing of my brother. We had many photos to look back on.

What a coincidence that as a writer for mybaycity.com, I am known for always having a camera around my neck. I commonly hear "Are you taking pictures today?" I think giving the reader a visual sets the tone for the articles I write.

It seems now when I am around family and friends socially, I don't bother to take my camera, cause it's nice not to have to be dragging it along. And I sometime forget how important it is to have such family photos.

I was reminded of it again when recently, I had a MyBayCity.com subscriber tell me that their brother had passed away, and the only recent photo they had of him, was one that I had taken during event coverage that I was doing.

Instead of feeling like the annoying person, always asking to TAKE a picture, I was SO glad to have had the opportunity to supply this photo/photos for the family of their loved one.

(So grab a camera and get a picture taken with your friends and loved ones today!)

And Just For the Record: MyBayCity.com has every single article (WITH PICTURES) Still in the Archives back to 2003. These articles are still available Online today .
