The last thing anybody wants on Homecoming night is rain. With all the pageantry associated with the evening, wind and rain makes it hard to enjoy. But the Bobcats football team weren't daunted by the weather and helped take their fans minds off the cold and wet winds as John Glenn rushed for a 41-7 victory over Pinconning.

Neither team could get their offenses going in the first quarter. Then the Bobcats got their ground attack going as they rode the power running of Devin McCulloh on a 13 play drive that carried over into the second quarter. Then Anthony Merchant finished off the drive with a 9 yard dash and with Connor Windiate's kick, the Bobcats were ahead 7-0.

Thanks to a roughing the punter penalty, the Spartans looked to answer the score. Starting on their own 25, Pinconning moved the ball to midfield before turning it over on downs. Four plays later, it was Merchant again as he broke through the Spartan line and raced 46 yards for his second score and putting the Bobcats up 14-0.

The play went from bad to worse for the visiting Spartans. A fired up Bobcat defense forced three strait negative rushes and a bad punt gave Glenn the ball on Pinconning's 42. Uncharacteristically, the Cats took to the air completing a 32 yard pass play to Devin McCulloh putting the Bobcats on the Spartan 10. The QB David Dunn hit Brandon Vittitow for a 10 yard touchdown strike and following a missed extra point, Glenn held a halftime lead of 20-0.

John Glenn opened up the second half receiving the ball. After an 18 yard return put the ball just in Spartan territory, Glenn went right back on the attack. The first big blow came on the legs of Brandon Vittitow as we broke off a nice 20 yard run. Then Dunn hit Anthony Merchant for a 13 yard pass to the Spartan 4 yard. Reid Alexander finished the drive off on the next play powering in for the score. The extra point made it 27-0.

Despite the driving rain, Pinconning looked to the air to get things going. An 18 yard pass from senior QB Collin Lorenz to Josh Rivard gave the Spartan faithful some hope. But two plays later a fumble put John Glenn in possession at midfield. The patent ground attack started ripping off yardage in 10 yard chunks before Nick Studniarz punched it in from the one yard line and with the kick, the homecoming dance had started early with a 34-0 third quarter lead.

Glenn finished off their scoring in the fourth quarter. Following a 36 yard punt return by Quentin Thomas put the ball on the Spartan 25, Connor Van Den Bosch ran it in from the 5 yard line to give John Glenn a 41-0 lead.

The Spartans showed their pride and determination as they went on a 54 yard drive to notch their only score. Turning to junior running back Zade LaBean, he peeled off runs of 16,7 and 14 yards before finishing off the drive from a yard out to make the final score 41-7.

John Glenn amassed 240 yards rushing led by Devin McCulloh who had 75 yards on 14 carries and Anthony Merchant who exploded for 60 yards on only four touches. Six other ball carriers saw time combining for 95 yards collectively. David Dunn added 59 yards in the air on 3 of 4 passing.

Pinconning's Sam Bourcier had a very productive night. The senior linebacker racked up 19 tackles while on the other side of the ball, he carried the rock 11 times for 27 yards. Zade LaBean led the Spartan ground attack with 43 yards on 8 attempts.

John Glenn hits the road to take on Big Rapids next week as they look to take a step closer to a playoff birth. Meanwhile, Pinconning hopes to break into the win column as they host Tawas next week.
