Bay Regional Medical Classes Set For October

Infant/Child CPR & First Aid Class

Bay Regional Medical Center will offer Infant/Child CPR & First Aid Class on Monday,October 17 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 South Lincoln in Bay City.

This class will cover safety/prevention of injuries and accidents; basic first aid; dehydration and fever and CPR. Our goal is safe, healthy, and happy families.

This class includes the Infant/Child segment of the "Friends & Family" curriculum, and is specifically directed toward parents or others who may be caring for infants/children. The cost is $15; payment required prior to class start to secure registration. Baby Class for BIG Kids

Bay Regional Medical Center will offer a Baby Class for BIG Kids (sibling preparation class)on Monday, October 24 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at Bay Regional Medical Center, Orlen Johnson Library Conference Room, 1900 Columbus Avenue, Bay City.

This is a 1-½ hour class for children ages 3-8 that are expecting a new baby at home.

In this class, children will receive information about fetal development, newborns, getting used to this new addition to the family, sibling safety and the older sibling's role. Class also includes a puppet show,game, hands-on with dolls, crafts, snack and a tour of the nursery.The cost is $10 per family.

Schedules Balance Program

Bay Regional Medical Center's Center for Rehabilitation will offer the program "Balance: The Key to Your Independence" class on Tuesday, October 18, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 S. Lincoln, Bay City.

Crystal Parker, Physical Therapist, will discuss how your body keeps you balanced and what can go wrong when you lose your balance. Come and learn some strategies to improve your safety and what can be done to make you less likely to fall.

Living with Multiple Sclerosis"

Bay Regional Medical Center's Center for Rehabilitation will offer the program "Living with Multiple Sclerosis" on Tuesday, October 25, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 S.Lincoln, Bay City.

Come hear an inspiring story of a young woman with Multiple Sclerosis. Kristina Hutchison was diagnosed with MS and didn't let it stop her from achieving her dreams. People with MS can function and do everything a normal person can do. Come and see what Multiple Sclerosis is all about and what living with it is like.

Whether you or someone you know has been diagnosed with MS, the first question most people have is "What can I expect"? That question is not always easy to answer because the course of the disease is often unpredictable. Living with MS can be challenging. No question about it. Come and listen to her story.

DIABETES EDUCATION CLASSES AT BAY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

A Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is offered through Bay Regional Medical Center.

Sessions with a diabetes education nurse and registered dietitian are offered weekly. Topics include diabetes diagnosis and progression, meal planning and carbohydrate counting, knowing your numbers, preventing complications, stress management and goal setting.

Our Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is certified by the State of Michigan Department of Community Health and has met the National Standards of the American Diabetes Association.

Bay Regional Medical Center offers a variety of prenatal programs for expectant parents and parents of newborns. Classes include:

    "Parkinson's Exercise & Movement" Class

    Bay Regional Medical Center's Center for Rehabilitation is pleased to offer a comprehensive low-cost exercise class designed for individuals living with Parkinson's Disease.

    "Parkinson's Exercise and Movement Class" is held each Wednesday from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road, Bay City.Parkinson's disease is a chronic disorder of the brain that impairs a person's ability to move.

    Parkinson's causes damage to the part of the nervous system controlling movement, posture, and balance, resulting in stiffness, tremors, slowness, as well as difficulty with balance, walking and speaking. Exercise should be started as soon after diagnosis as possible. Inactivity results in muscle weakness and stiffness. Regular exercise helps to maintain quality of movement and muscle function.The Parkinson's Exercise and Movement Class consists of breathing exercises, stretching exercises, postural & balance exercises and proprioception exercises.

    The class is instructed by a specially-trained physical therapist assistant.Participants must bring a signed physician's approval before beginning the exercise program.     TYPE 2 DIABETES SUPPORT GROUP

    Bay Regional Medical Centers Outpatient Diabetes Education Program has scheduled a Type 2 Diabetes Support Group for Wednesday, October 19, 2011 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 South Lincoln ,Bay City.

    Pre-registration is not necessary.Come and join us for information, support and fun! Feel free to bring a family member or friend. This support group meets the third Wednesday of each month September through May and features a different health topic and speaker each month.

    Linda Houthoofd, RD, CDE, will discuss NuVal Training at the October 19 meeting.The Type 2 Diabetes Support Group is provided as a free service of the Outpatient Diabetes Education Program.
