Bay County Looking To Expand Web Services

Local Real Estate Professionals may soon browse Bay County's Web Site to get Delinquent Tax Information.

Bay County Director of Administrative Service, Mike Gray and newly-elected County Treasurer Rick Brzezinski invited a cross-section of Real Estate business types to a 90-minute focus group gathering in the County Building this past Monday.

Gray talked of fee-based seervices that would make access to important tax information more easily accessible to banks and title companies during the real estate "closing" processs.

Treasurer Brzezinski said that at least three other Michigan County entities (Midland, Alleghan and Ingraham) all have a fee-based structure. All of these counties are expanding their service level.

Gray said that Bay County's Web Site gets high marks from organization that rate sites on service level. "We want to stay ahead of the game," Gray said. "That's why we invited you here."

Currently, web sites like Midland County's has a three-tiered rate structure. They have a no-charge limited access, a fee-based professional rate and a government-to-government exchange rate. Midland has six businesses that contract with the County for information.

Brzezinski said that the County is looking for a "Return of Cost" fee structure that is fair. Brzezinski said there will be start-up programming costs that will have to be re-captured.Right now, citizens can Search For Tax Information. But delinquent tax information is the item that can hold up the sale of a residential home.

Representatives of banks pointed out that the current tax status of the home is very important. Are the current taxes paid?

Treasurer Brzezinski pointed out that the local townships collect tax money for the County but only report updated status to the County on March 1 of each year.

Interfacing township computers with the County's computer system is a step or two down the road. But plans will continue on a regular basis to make Tax Info (both current and delinquent) available to business in Bay County.

Bay County REALTOR Association (BCRA) CEO, Bob Adamowski, commended the County for continuing to update and improve web services. "Information discussed today could be very beneficial for Title Companies," Adamowski said. "The BCRA is always glad to see the County working to improve their web informational presence."
