Wild Addiction TV host Tim Roller looks forward to traveling to west central Illinois each year, and for good reason. Roller notched another Pope & Young class whitetail in Greene County while hunting the morning of November 4th.
Roller and cameraman Scott Close were hunting a stand they had put up the day before in a driving rain storm.
"I knew I needed to be in this particular tree," Roller stated. "The sign around this field edge was incredible. Scrapes and rubs were everywhere! With the forecasted winds to be out of the northeast the morning of the 4th, this particular tree located at the end of a point would be perfect."
The morning of the 4th broke crystal clear, with no wind and a temperature of 36 degrees. "It was the morning you dream of for the first week of November," Roller recalls. "I placed a decoy out and started rattling as soon as we had good camera light."
Not long after that first rattling sequence, a 150" class 8 point came to the horns, only to hang up at 67 yards before turning away. Forty minutes later, the second rattling sequence of the morning would prove to be the last. Two bucks responded immediately to the horns from opposite directions. When they met at the decoy, the smaller of the two quickly retreated, leaving the older buck at the decoy.
Roller made a perfect 34 yard shot and the buck only traveled 110 yards before crashing.
"It was an incredible morning that ending up giving us some of the most incredible footage we've ever captured," says Roller. "Nothing jacks me up more in the deer woods than rattling and decoying, and to have another buck succumb to those techniques is as good as it gets for me!"
The hunt for this incredible deer can be seen on Tim Roller's Wild Addiction TV in 2012, and also on their newest Whitetail DVD release, due out in the spring of 2012.
