Adam Hellebuyck and Chris Cunningham have played together in bands for many years. The two trombone players sat side-by-side for four years in the Bay City Central Jazz Band as well as the Central Marching Band.
Now, third year students at Ann Arbor, Chris and Adam are part of the 180+ member Campus Band at the University of Michigan. The Campus Band, under the direction of Conductor Damon Talley, performed their Winter Concert at Hill Auditorium on Sunday, December 12, 2004.
TheCampus Band is comprised on non-music majors that still have an interest in the performing arts. With 39 clarinets and 36 flute players making up almost half of the ensemble, the Campus Band filled the auditorium with music on Sunday afternoon. There are13 trombone players in the band.
The Campus Band played John Zdechhlik's Celebrations as well as the more familiar Shenandoah composed by Frank Ticheli. Highlight of the program was a Scott Hartley World Premier piece entitled Soaring Colors. The band finished off the program with Norman Dello Joio's Variants on a Medieval Tune and Wagner's Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral from Lohengrin.
