"I hate housework! You make the beds, you do the dishes and six months later you have to start all over again." ~ Joan Rivers

No, I don't find it therapeutic anymore. I don't feel a sense of accomplishment when I'm done and nope, I don't look at it as a source of pride in my womanhood to do it well.

Housework has just become a big pain in the...ahem, neck.

But until now, I've never had anyone clean my house for me.

I have always went to battle alone on my hardwood floor fields with the armies of dust bunnies.

No one but 'moi', has ever washed off a years worth of crud on the outside of the sun room windows. That is, assuming I've gotten to it once a year.

Only my knees have ever graced the kitchen floor, in an attempt to wipe away toast crumbs and errant cereal that apparently jumps out of bowls while my son pours it.

It has only been my undignified job, to date, in sweeping the bathroom floor and wiping up hairballs on a regular basis that amount to the size of Garfield the cat.

Which would make a lot more sense if I even owned a cat.

But, I'm tired of doing it and I'm thinking for the first time in my life, I might treat myself to a regular "cleaning lady".

Someone to wipe up muddy boot tracks on floors, keep the tub shiny and clean. Someone to take care of a few of the bigger jobs, like steam cleaning the furniture, say, once a decade or so.

However, in spite of being given a reliable reference and phone number from a friend I trust, who is having this person clean HIS house too, I've not called her yet.

It seems too frivolous.

It seems too selfish and lazy to spend good, hard-earned money to have someone come in and clean up my messes.

If I can't tidy up the things in my life after myself, what does that say about me as a person??

Yet...I like a clean, organized house. I like not being horrified if company stops in unannounced and I have to admit to myself that lately, I've had so many irons in the fire, there just isn't enough time anymore.

The dust bunnies are staging a coup and their growing numbers are getting formidable. I'm getting a little frightened, actually.

So, I will attempt to convince myself this weekend, to give it a try for a while. See if the extra time I gain for fun things, is worth paying someone else to mop my floors.

Because darn it, I've earned a little reprieve after so many years and the many dozens of cans of Pledge that have graced my weary hands!

Haven't I?? (Just say "yes")

Why, I might find such a burden lifted in trying to keep my house spic and span, that I become motivated to do something really healthy for myself!

Gee, when I think about it, with all that extra time I could save, it would give me a perfect reason to schedule regular visits with my treadmill again.

If she's any good as a 'cleaning lady', I'm sure she'll be able to locate it for me under the dust and all the clothes hanging off of it...Don't you think?
