The number one thing the effects the housing market is unemployment. If people don't have jobs it doesn't matter how much the house is, they still can't buy it. So as a community we need to do everything we can to create and help keep jobs in our area. So shop in Bay City, eat out in Bay City and hire local vendors to do your repairs and construction. If we all did this we would be able to save and create more jobs.

Interest rates will also affect the housing market, the lower the interest rate will affect the price point for a buyer. They are able to afford a higher priced home, and investors are able to purchase multiple properties.

Crime also will affect the housing market area by area. Keeping crime out of your neighborhood will not only help your property values but will give your home a better chance of selling period. And of course you need help in this area so this month I will be doing interviews with several law enforcement officers including Detective 1st Lt. Jeffrey C. Anthony of the BANET Team and our Prosecuting Attorney Kurt Asbury. If you have any questions that you would like me to ask please e-mail them to me at jeanann@remaxresults.org.

Along with crime, keeping your property clean and well maintained is huge for your property value. People want to live in a nice well kept neighborhood. Keeping your home free of debris, your landscaping trimmed and your lawn mowed will make a big difference. Roofs, windows and your siding repaired and or painted is a must. If you need help financially you can call Bay Area Housing at 989-893-9292 and they can help with city grants for home repairs. Not everyone qualifies and they only have so much money so don't wait.
