Garber's youth movement showed plenty of energy and fight as the Dukes took on a talented and poised John Glenn Tuesday night. But it was the senior leadership of the Bobcats that help keep fend off the scrappy Garber defense as John Glenn pulled away with a 60-54 cross town rival win.

Garber came out full of fire, hawking the ball and pushing it up court every chance they could. But the youthful energy was almost too much as shots were just off their mark and passes just missed their teammates keeping the Dukes from getting on top of the Bobcats. Glenn matched up well to the pressure as they kept their cool and hit their shots to pull out to 16-10 lead at the end of the quarter.

Garber sought to keep up the intensity and pace as they utilized their bench keeping players fresh. Glenn responded by making crisp perimeter passes which caused the Dukes to run back and forth on the defensive end of the court. Glenn found the open player with Brad Wyman hitting a three pointer and a deuce to help the Bobcats just keep ahead of Garber. The teams entered halftime with Glenn holding a 27-20 lead.

Garber changed their strategy to start the second half by working inside taking advantage of their height. The change helped Garber narrow the gap as the Bobcat's aggressive defense started racking up fouls sending the Dukes to the charity stripe 10 times resulting in 8 points. To keep pace, John Glenn turned to senior leadership in Brad Wyman. He hit three shots from the outside but more importantly, provided ball handling and stability that allowed his teammates to weather the Duke storm in the third period.

But the big play of the quarter that seemed to change the flow of the game came on an offensive goal-tending call late in the third. After clawing their way back to within one point, Garber created another turnover and was headed to overcoming the mountain and take their first lead on Glenn. But as the ball seemed to be just leaving the rim, it was put back in for what appeared to be a go ahead basket. But the official caught the infraction and the Dukes remained down by one. The call both seemed to deflate the Duke attack and ignite the Bobcat offense. Glenn responded by going on a 10-0 run to finish out the third leading 39-34 and start the fourth quarter.

The Garber funk didn't last long in the fourth quarter. Just when it seemed that the Bobcats would be cruising to another victory, the action heated right up again. Garber turned up the intensity by hawking the ball at every chance. But John Glenn's poise and experience prevailed as they made quick inbounds passes keeping the Dukes from setting up their press.

If time running out, Garber had to resort to fouls in hopes of trading a point for a basket and narrow the margin. The strategy backfired as the Bobcats nailed 17 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter compared to Garber's 5 of 7 shooting. The extra bonus tosses proved to be the difference as John Glenn held on for a 60-54 win.

John Glenn got strong scoring from Brad Wyman with 19 points while Tyler Hoyt scored 15 and Chase Krager added 12.

Simeon Berry and Tyler Schroeder paced the Dukes with 10 points each with Ryley Henika and Jon Nuenke adding 9 apiece.
