Caro Downs Lady Dukes, 43-31

It was a tough night shooting for the Lady Dukes as they looked to get their season on track against visiting Caro. Neither team could find the bottom of the basket early as cold shooting and long cross court passes kept the score down. Caro picked up the pace by adding a late quarter full court press that if nothing more added a spark to both teams as Caro finished out the quarter with a slight edge, 7-6.

The increased defensive pressure helped Caro find an offensive rhythm as they began to find their range from the outside. Garber handled the press well as they got into the flow finding plenty of open shots to work with. However, the rim was not as kind for the host Lady Dukes as they were unable to capitalize on their open shots. Their hard work did help get them to the charity stripe but 3 of 10 free throw shooting kept them from gaining an advantage. Meanwhile, Caro's outside shooting that included 3 three point scores also opened up lanes to the basket as Caro pulled ahead 20-13 at the half.

Garber started the second half attacking the basket. This strategy helped them take control of the game as they drew plenty of foul calls getting them to the free throw line. But the cold shooting continued as they struggled from the line. Their aggressive offensive play also carried over to the defensive side as they held Caro in check most of the quarter allowing the Lady Dukes to come back to 24-23 late in the quarter. Caro finished off the quarter with two baskets stretching their lead back to 28-23 to end the quarter.

Both teams started the final quarter strong hitting their shots. While Garber had dialed in on their aim, Caro kept matching Garber shot for shot to keep their lead. Soon time became the Lady Dukes enemy as they had to start forcing shots and take defensive chances which resulted in fouls. Caro took advantage of the free throw opportunities as they knocked down 7 of 11 tries to pull away from Garber and seal a 43-31 win.

Emma MacBride led Garber with 7 points while Taylor Gerhardt added 6. For Caro, Erika Roe knocked down 12 points with Nicole Quick adding 10.
