Tuesday Western hosted Mt. Pleasant in what was expected to be a physical game. Cold shooting and sluggish play helped keep the score down in the first half with the Warriors holding a 18-17 halftime lead. The Oilers physical play in the second half started a fire that burned out of control as the host Warriors pulled away for a 56-41 win.

Play was slow as the Oiler defense double and triple teamed Matt Costello forcing the ball into outside shooting. It was clear that the strategy was to not let Costello beat them from the floor but to put him on the line. With the Western shots not falling, Mt. Pleasant worked their way to an early lead only to loose most of it with sharp foul shooting to end the first quarter, leading Western 10-8.

Western's defense got stronger in the second quarter as they took the lead and held Mt. Pleasant to 7 points. But they couldn't get much of a fast break game going and struggled to build a lead as they went into the locker room up 18-17.

The game changed in the second half as the Oilers continued their physical play particularly on Matt Costello. The strategy of hindering his movement to frustrate and harass him did result in a foul by Costello early in the second half. But the strategy backfired as it fired up the big man and his teammates responded. A couple strong moves to the basket for a basket and couple of free throws by Matt Costello ignited the third quarter surge.

The Oilers thought they caught a break when Costello was called for charging then received a technical foul moments after the call. While this put the big man on the bench for a bit with three fouls, his teammates led by brother John Costello and Jake Watz showed they are a solid team taking over the play for the quarter. The physical play put Western on the line where they went 5 for 6 in the quarter to go with a three pointer by Watz and Nick Vachon. In the end, Western had built a commanding 35-25 lead.

Western continued the offensive surge with Jake Watz and Cameron Roth each adding 6 points and Matt Costello was limited to four for four shooting from the line. Mt. Pleasant's Jordan Wilson tried to lead a comeback hitting two three's while running the offense. But the Warrior fire was ragging hot as the Warriors outscored the Oilers 21-16 to come away with a 56-41 win.

Jake Watz lead Western with 16 points while Matt Costello added 13, 9 from the free throw line and John Costello added 12.

Jordan Wilson paced Mt. Pleasant with 15 points while Aaron Leasher added 8.
