First Friday Phenomena -- Here's the Update

  • Registration for 2012 -2013 has begun in earnest with our current families; new family registration officially begins on Monday, March 5. While enrollment continues throughout the year, we request that current parents complete their forms by April 27. Annually we witness our teachers and staff helping students and their families to go farther by being a part of Bay Area Catholic Schools (BACS).

  • A 4th grade St. John student has earned her place at tomorrow's State competition of the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee, taking place in Standish. This amazing young speller won 1st place in the January 28 Regional Level I competition, for grades 4 - 6, held in Hemlock. A Holy Trinity 5th grader placed 5th at the Regional level. Way to go farther! Our hearty congratulations to both of these girls and our best wishes at the State finals! Last year's state winner was from Mackinaw City.

  • We are proud to announce the All Saints Central Middle & High School 2012 Valedictorian, Michelle Kleinau, and Salutatorian, Ashley Pike. Besides being outstanding students, these young ladies are very involved in school clubs, organizations, and athletics as well as in their parishes and the community. Well done, Michelle and Ashley!

  • The generous spirit of your Bay Area Catholic Schools community was evident on the evening of February 22, when All Saints held a fundraising event for the Wes Leonard Heart Team. More than $7,000 in cash and an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) were donated to the program to help save lives. • Each of the Bay Area Catholic Schools has a Home and School Association to support some of the individual needs of the school. While they are all involved in very active and useful fundraising, they also provide support for various community-building activities and help with special functions at the schools. Their assistance on retreats, field trips, with dances and appreciation days for teachers, among many other things, is a tremendous bonus for our schools. Our schools are able to go farther because of these dedicated groups.

  • In the months prior to Catholic Schools Week, each of your BACS schools contacted at least one other school in the United States bearing the same name. Our hope was for our schools to connect with their namesake school to recognize a common bond among all Catholic schools. This successful project has extended beyond Catholic Schools Week itself to include corresponding back and forth and using Skype. Other types of joint ventures may come from these relationships in future months.

  • Every year the Diocese of Saginaw sponsors The BIG Raffle as a fund raiser for all of the Catholic schools in its' 11 counties. With an assortment of seven great prizes, like $10,000 or a trip to Rome, it is obvious why people will pay $5 for their chance to win. Tickets are available at the schools, the BACS office, from parents of our students and at various public events, such as fish fries. We hope that you buy a lucky ticket!
