Rotarians were treated to a preview of Saturday's Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra's presentation of "Romeo and Juliet: The Music". Maestro Patrick Flynn came equipped with computer, assistant, amplifier and very large speakers with which he played short segments from several of the pieces which will be presented Saturday.

According to Flynn, "Romeo and Juliet is more than the story of teenagers who could not control themselves. It's a powerful story that has attracted many composers." Saturday's program will draw from the music of four of the best by featuring selections from the Romeo and Juliet Overture by Tchaikovsky, Balcony Scene from Romeo and Juliet by Berlioz, Second Suite from Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev, and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Bernstein.

British born Flynn comes to the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra as its new Music Director and Conductor. According to the SBSO literature, "His career has encompassed the globe and ever form of musical production. He as won critical praise worldwide for his ability to elicit exciting performances in an enormous range of repertory."

Flynnpraised the SBSO as a "hidden treasure". He also complimented Rotarian Leo Najar, conductor of the Bijou Orchestra, as the person who built the SBSO into the orchestra that it is today.
