SAGINAW, MI - On April 10, 2012, United States Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills, from Vassar, of the 82nd Airborne, on his third tour of duty in Afghanistan, was critically injured by an IED (improvised explosive device) while on patrol.

Thanks to his amazing strength, courage, an incredible will to live, the heroic actions of the men in his unit, and the prayers of thousands, Travis has returned to the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, near Washington DC, to begin his recovery. He is a genuine American hero and for his incredible sacrifice, we are forever in his debt.

This Friday, April 27th, during the Saginaw Sting's Local Heroes night (where members of the military, fire, police, medical, academic, and scout organizations can receive $6 admission) at The Dow Event Center, volunteers from around the area will be "Passing the Helmet" to accept donations on behalf of the Travis Mills Family Fund.

In addition, the Sting organization along with The Dow Event Center's GM Matt Blasy, CIFL Commissioner Jeff Spitaleri, Indianapolis Enforcers' Owner KC Carter, and former Sting coach Vince Leveille are pleased to announce "Travis Mills Night" at The Dow Event Center, Saturday May 5th.

"I had the honor of being Travis' high school football coach," said Leveille. "He was the leader on our first playoff team in school history. Our community is coming together to raise funds for the family to help off-set future expenses related to his injuries.

Although the military covers all medical-related expense, there will be lots of non-medical expenses the family will need help with. I would like to sincerely thank the Saginaw Sting and the CIFL for organizing this event."

Originally scheduled as an away game, the Sting ownership group worked together with league officials and Indianapolis ownership to move the game to Saginaw.

"When we heard the news about Travis we put a call to action in place to come up with the best possible scenario of how we could support Mills and his family," said Sting Co-Owner/GM Robert Licht, "Vince (Leveille) reached out to us about doing a donation during our Local Heroes night on April 27th but we wanted to do more."

On Saturday May 5th the Indianapolis Enforcers will travel to Saginaw's home, The Dow Event Center, to square off in a regular-season contest beginning at 7:30PM. The Sting organization has lowered all ticket prices to $10 and will donate $3 from every ticket sold to the Mills Family Fund.

The Dow Event Center holds nearly 6,000 people and seating will be on a first come, first serve basis. A "Pass the Helmet" will once again take place during the game and volunteers will be on hand selling Travis Mills - American Hero t-shirts for $20. Tickets for this event will go on sale Friday April 27th and will be available at The Dow Box Office.
