On April 16 of this year, Rose Trahan Cipriano and her family suffered a terrible tragedy that claimed the life of her husband
Rose Trahan Cipriano is a 1978 graduate of Bay City Central and was a standout swimmer who still holds the school records in the 100 yard freestyle and 200 medley relay. She is also a 1982 graduate of Central Michigan University where she holds numerous individual and relay records as well. Rose was inducted into the Central Michigan University Sports Hall of Fame in 2009 and the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame in 2010.
Inside the pool Rose has always been a fierce competitor, a role model and mentor to many a young swimmer. Her favorite events were the 50 and 100 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke. She has continued to swim at the Master?s level. Outside of the pool Rose is loved by all who know her, even those who have competed against her. She is funny, outgoing, kind, and lights up a room with both her laughter and her smile.
On April 16 of this year, Rose and her family suffered a terrible tragedy that claimed the life of her husband Bob. Rose and her son, Salvatore, suffered critical injuries that will require rehabilitation. Her other two children, Tanner and Isabella, were not physically injured but will need continued support.
The Bay City swimming community, both past and present, decided it was time to help our dear friend Rose and her family. The "Swim for Rose" event is scheduled for Saturday, May 19, 2012, from 10am-1pm at the Handy Middle School pool in Bay City. All proceeds from this event will be directed to the two funds that have been set up for Rose and her family.
