Every year thousands of children in Bay County go back to school in worn out clothing and shoes. Basic needs such as clothing are not only an essential part of life, but also vital to help children feel good about themselves and their education when school starts back up.

United Way of Bay County responds to this need with its Back to School Clothing Program. The program sends qualified children from Bay County back to school with a new outfit, shoes, and undergarments.

The final number of children who are requesting help for the 2012-2013 school year is 1,342. These children come from over 600 families in Bay County!

The average cost to sponsor a child is $65 and currently United Way has obtained enough funding to sponsor approximately 900 children. It is highly imperative that United Way receives more community involvement to successfully support all 1,342 of these children. There are many ways that you can contribute to this program as either/both an individual or a business/organization and 100% of your donation is used to purchase clothing, undergarments, and shoes for these kids!

The first distribution day is today (Friday, August 17). The United Way will pass out bags to almost 900 kids! Tera Wieland, Marketing and Communications Director said there is still time to help! "We are asking the community to step up and call us or stop in to sponsor a child/children). PLEASE, help us help these children!"

If you or your organization would like to help us help these children, please call 989.893.7508 x15, visit unitedwaybaycounty.org, or stop in to the United Way office at 909 Washington Avenue, Suite 2, downtown Bay City.

There is still a need for almost 400 more bags! Help Today!
