The Garber Soccer program has been on the rise over the last several years. This year's squad has shown to be the strongest yet going undefeated in their first three games with two wins and a tie.

Even more impressive is those games were against schools with strong programs that are sporting winning records of their own. Tuesday's game against USA was yet another solid test against a team that Coach Bill Williamson's squads had yet to beat in his four years on the sidelines. The Dukes responded with a second consecutive shutout in defeating the Patriots 5-0.

The Dukes featured a strong aggressive and challenging defense to keep USA under control. Strong play by the mid-fielders help keep the Patriots from penetrating the Garber zone as the Dukes limited USA to only three shots in the first half.

The strong defense produced good scoring opportunities as Austin McFarlane got Garber on the scoreboard with a goal in the right corner. Defenseman Patrick Smith tallied Garber's second goal of the first half as he blasted his shot past the diving USA goalkeeper making it 2-0.

In the second half, the defensive pressure seemed to wear down USA as Garber held them to only two shots while denting the net three more times. Drew Piotrowski scored on a shot that just crossed the goal line before USA could get their hands on the ball making it 3-0.

Logan Hamel made it 4-0 when he drilled a shot through the outstretched hands of goalkeeper at the 12:36 mark and the game was well in hand. Brady Wieland finished off the Duke scoring as he picked up the initial stopped shot as the ball laid next to the goalkeeper and fired his shot by a diving defender with just under five minutes remaining in the game.

Garber's goalkeeper, Garret Irish, has been strong in the nets all season. In Garber's first three games, he has yielded only two goals on 25 shots while recording a shutout in Garber's last game, a tie versus Swan Valley . Tonight, Irish stopped all four shots he faced before giving way to fellow goalkeeper, Zach Dubay. Dubay preserved the shutout by stopping the only shot he faced.

Garber's next game is Wednesday September 5 as they travel to Millington to start league action. Game time is 4:30 pm.
