Adam Hurst To Play At State Theatre's 'Taste & Theatrics' What To Do This Weekend (09/06/2012)

So, what does my agenda look like this weekend? Well, lets see...
There is a LOT going on this weekend that I am interested in. Much of it centered around our beautiful Downtown Bay City. Starting with the '1st Thursdays Downtown Bay City Gallery Walk'. which will be another unique experience this month.
Highlighting the creative sides of art and business, Northwood University faculty will offer mini presentations at various locations throughout downtown. Each ten-minute session will begin at 5:30 and will allow 30 minutes in between. Sessions will be held at Golden Gallery, Do-Art Gallery and Studio 23.
Area Art Galleries/Studios Showcase Area Instructors Golden Gallery, Do- Art, Studio 23, Ward Gallery and Painterly Pottery, and East Bank Market will be hosting the work of their instructors/resident artists and various local shops will be hosting the work of past and present students of these artists.
Also, the local galleries/studios and colleges have been invited to enter their instructors and students in a live art competition on September 6th from 3pm to 7pm. Top Prize will be $175.00, with prizes offered for 2nd and 3rd place as well.
The contest will begin at 3pm and end at 7pm. All entries will be turned in at Golden Gallery, 113 3rd St. by 7:15pm for judging.
Also on Thursday, in Downtown Bay City, check out East Bank Market (EBM) for their 'Pies for Domestic Peace' fundraiser, where patrons can get a raffle ticket for "pie-flinging rights" at one of our notable citizens. All donations will benefit the Bay Women's Center.
Friday, there's John Glenn High School "Pink Out" Football game, with proceeds benefiting Relay for Life. Ball tournaments at Defoe Park and top notch bands, Kaleido, The Thunder Chickens and Born playing at Northern Lanes in Midland.
Saturday, at 913 Washington Avenue, in front of State Theatre the street will be closed and the big tents out for their 10th annual fundraiser, 'Taste & Theatrics' which goes from 5p-8p.
Enjoy food and dessert, from several local establishments, beer and wine tasting, from Tri-City Brewery and Ideal Party Store, a photo booth from Bee Entertainment , outside entertainment from gypsy cellist Adam Hurst, and much more!
Hurst is an accomplished and unique cellist. From his bio, "Award winning cellist and composer Adam Hurst uses the cello as a solo melodic voice and creates passionate and emotive musical poetry that digs straight to the soul.
The original music of Adam Hurst is at once haunting, ethereal, evocative and romantic. His music has hints of Arabic, Indian, Eastern European, Native American, Celtic traditions while being completely his own.
He has performed throughout the US and in Europe and has been commissioned to compose and perform original work for ballet, belly dance, and contemporary dance. His music has played on various radio shows around the world including Echoes on NPR stations in the US. His recordings have been used in independent films, documentaries and art films. Adam Hurst's compelling live performances are not to be missed."
