You hate your job?
Why didn't you say so - There's a support group for that.
It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.

I know one thing for sure.

I work too much.

You work too much.

We all work too much.

Somewhere along the path of Capitalism, we've all got hoodwinked into thinking . . . no . . . believing . . . that more work = more success = more income = more stuff = more fun = happy.

I'm here to tell you . . . Get off this boat of lies . . . before it sinks in deep water . . . cuz you ain't prepared to swim ashore.

Working . . . Working . . .
Working Overtime . . .

The Squirrel -- I'm sitting here, relaxing on a Sunday morning -- watching a squirrel . . . running back and forth . . . up and down a tree . . . wondering half-aloud . . . what the heck is this squirrel's motivation to work so hard?

The Golden -- I have a three year-old Golden Retriever ("River") who also seems somewhat "busy today. She has her entire being focused on the Pere Marquette River. She's been "working at it" since 8:00am when she noticed a pair of spawning salmon heading upstream to do their business.

When she saw the fish, she charged down the hill, splashed into the river in full retriever chase mode and of course failed to retrieve the swimming fish.

But since that event, River has been "locked and loaded" in anticipation of the next salmon that will surely happen past us.

In the truest sense, River's "plate is full" today. She's working a full double shift on the bank of the Pere Marquette.

Much like the squirrel . . . She's workin' all day.

Let's get back to the salmon.

The Salmon -- Those two 4 year-old Chinook Salmon have swum up the Pere Marquette River about 90 miles since they left their home in Lake Michigan. They entered the stream at Ludington just a few days ago and have "worked" their way up to the Flies Only section of the Pere Marquette River to spawn, make babies and then die.

Now . . . There's a job description that's something to think about.

Most of us work to "make a living."

When strangers or people you just meet ask . . . "What do you do?

What do you say?

We all answer with our job titles.

It would be so much better if we could answer with what we do for fun or joy or happiness.

I fish . . .

I hunt . . .

I travel . . .

I run marathons . . .

I coach Little League . . .

I play golf . . .

I go to Bingo . . .

I play the guitar . . .

Most of us work so that we can do something else. What's that old saying? Work makes us a living but work doesn't make a life.

Try these sayings about work on for size . . .

Every donkey thinks his load is the heaviest.

Work at something you like and you'll never work a day in your live.
