It has been a story book season so far for the Garber soccer program. Entering Monday's game, they stood undefeated with strong performances every night. Garber knew they were facing their biggest challenge so far as they took on Birch Run in a TVC East matchup. In a strong defensive contest, Garber held the upper hand going into the second half. The Panthers were able to sustain more offensive pressure to net two goals then played lights out defense holding off Garber's valiant attempt at tying the game as the Panthers came away with a 2-1 win.

Garber struck first in the tight battle to take a 1-0 lead. Austin McFarlane got what turn into Garber's only goal jumping on a Birch Run opportunity and making the best of it. But the Dukes were unable to gain a greater advantage as Birch Run continued to challenge every ball keeping Garber from breaking loose.

The Panthers turned up their offensive pressure in the second half. Ever pressing on the Duke defense, the Panthers' Josh Filkins and Dallas VanBeusen each tallied to give Birch Run the 2-1 edge.

Garber kept attacking the Panther zone as time wound down. The Duke offense made sharp passes looking for that one breakaway shot but Birch Run's defense played their positions well denying the passing lanes and kicking the ball away from danger. Goalkeeper Kevin Abdella pounced on any would be scoring opportunity and sent the ball deep downfield preventing Garber from reacting to any rebounds.

While the 6 game unbeaten streak came to an end, no one was disappointed in their teams performance. The Duke fans waited to cheer their heroes' efforts long after the final whistle had blown as Garber looks forward to starting a new streak.
