What's on my agenda this weekend?
Well, let's see...
You will definitely find me at one of the best events in September, Bay City's
River of Time which goes Friday, September 28th thru Sunday, September 30th, 2012.
Since 1990, this living history encampment along the bank of the Saginaw River, near the historic Trombley House, has delighted thousands of visitors a year over the weekend.
This is a free educational event for people of all ages. The encampment draws as many as 900 re-enactors from around the Midwest, who come for the weekend to dress and live the roles of folks from an earlier time.
One of my favorite times to visit the encampment is in the early evening as the sun starts to set. The campfires glow from camp to camp, as the sounds of music from times past play on familiar and some unfamiliar musical instruments. It is a very peaceful and beautiful time to experience living history.
But, you can start out the weekend Thursday by tickling your funny bone when
Jim Breuer also known as "Goat Boy" from SNL hits the stage with his off the wall humor, at Saginaw's Temple Theater. Contact (989) 754-SHOW, for more information on tickets, or visit their website at www.templetheatre.com.
If acoustic music is what you're looking for Saturday night, the place to be is
World Cafe. Bob Hausler plays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. World Cafe is located on the corner of Saginaw St. and Center Ave. in Downtown Bay City.
If you're looking for a lively nightlife venue Saturday evening, you might want to check out
Mort's Northern Bar to hear
Limelight classic rock. Mort's is located on State Park Dr. in Bay City's Bangor Township and is just north of the Kawkawlin River bridge. The music starts at 9:30 p.m.and goes late into the evening. Mort's is always a fun place to go and this weekend should be no exception.
Make sure you get out there and enjoy the last weekend of September. I know I will!
