Two top teams - Midland Dow and Western squared off in local volleyball action. Midland used its height advantage to take early leads in each game. Western stormed back in each game to tie but Midland held off the Lady Warriors each time to win all three games and thus the match 25-23, 25-22 and 25-13.

In game one, Midland jumped out in front to an early 6-2 lead in the 25 point to win match. Then Western regrouped to tie the game at 7 apiece. The Lady Warriors were able to gain the lead when Sage Alexander tipped the ball down the line to put her team up 10-9.

The lead was short lived as Midland rattled off 6 straight points as they took over control in front of the net. Alexander's spike ended the drought momentarily before Midland's front line's height took control. The taller Midland ladies scored big on the double team, blocking shots pushing the Chargers ahead 20-12.

With the score at 22-18, Sage Alexander returned to help spark a Western comeback. With Midland up 24-20, Western stormed back to 24-23 on a couple of well placed kills before Midland scored the winning point 25-23.

Game 2 was a solid contest for both teams. Western backed off slightly from their tight net play. This tactic originally worked for Western, but Midland's front line adapted to it, and took full control on top. Down by 5, Alexander returned to help spark a second comeback for Western at 18-16.

Moments later, Western's Carlie Gennam serve landed successfully in the middle of the Charger team to tie the game at 20-all. When Tonnya Gary fired off a killer spike to put Western up 22-21, the Chargers got busy. Dow rattled off 4 straight points, with Helena Atton's kill sealing the victory, 25-22.

Game 3 followed in a similar pattern as the beginning of the first two games. Great plays and hustle from both sides of the court helped in keeping this game entertaining. Suddenly, you noticed that Midland was ahead by 5.

The Warriors quickly ignited and fueled by a couple of Tonnya Gary's cross court kills, the teams were knotted at 11. Midland's #10 Helena Atton came back into the game and delivered a couple thunder kills off the corner of the net to put Midland back up with the score at 16-11. Next Midland's Alyssa Stone and Helena Atton took command of the net to power the Chargers ahead. This time, Dow kept the momentum and finished with a 25-13 win for game and match.
