Senate Resolution 176 which declares October 7, 2012 "Lions Day" in the State of Michigan was offered by Senator Mike Green and adopted by the Senate on September 27, 2012.

There are over 12,000 members, both men and women, in 500+ clubs throughout Michigan. Around the world, our 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members make us the world's largest service club organization.

In Michigan, Lions Clubs perform a huge variety of services to our communities. Some examples of club projects include providing eyeglasses and hearing aids to those who cannot afford them, holding holiday parties for underprivileged kids, underwriting food giveaways, helping send kids to camp, maintaining parks, sponsoring a world-wide peace poster contest for students, hosting youth exchange kids from other countries, collecting used eyeglasses for overseas missions, visiting seniors, supporting organ donation drives, vision testing for young children, and so many more. In addition, all Michigan Clubs come together to support four State projects: Leader Dogs for the Blind, Michigan Eye Bank, Bear Lake Camp, and Lions of Michigan Foundation which helps fund projects such as disaster relief in the US and abroad.

One of the ideals of Lionism is that there are no administrative expenses. None. Every penny raised from the public goes back out into the communities we serve. All costs are born by our members through nominal dues.

The Bay City Lions Club will celebrate Michigan Lions Day by participating in Safety Day on Saturday, October 6 at the Bay City Home Depot.

Lions will provide free vision screenings for children ages 1 - 5 using a special camera that simply takes pictures of the children's' eyes to instantly diagnose 5 common vision problems. There will also be an information table where community members can find out more about Lions and get information about joining the club.
