Gallagher and Horton
14 year old Madeleine Gallagher of Bay City, a 9th grade student at John Glenn High School, and her 19 year old partner, Jonathon Horton of Clawson, recently qualified to compete at the 2013 U. S. Figure Skating National Championships to be held in Omaha, NE January 19-26 in the novice pairs division.
The reigning intermediate pair champions earned the honor to compete, one few skaters ever get to experience, by placing in the top 4 at the U.S. Figure Skating Midwestern Sectional Championships held last month in Strongsville, OH.
The team placed 3rd in their free skate and 4th overall, earning them the pewter medal. They are currently ranked 5th in the nation and are hoping to be strong competitors in their national debut.
Gallagher/Horton train at both the Bay County Civic Arena and Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills and are coached by Craig Joeright of Royal Oak and Teri Haag of Midland along with other supporting coaches/trainers both on and off the ice.
A open house fundraiser and send off event is being held for the pair team at Fusion 1 Cafe, 813 Saginaw St. in Downtown Bay City on Saturday, January 5th.
