This was a match-up of two teams that are in the process of building their programs. Pinconning, under first year coach Mindy Stokoszynski, has experienced some early success which is building confidence in her players.

All Saints is still searching for that first win of the season but has been showing signs of their game being ready to break out and get them on track. While the Cougars played tough defense and showing great ball movement for open shots, their cold shooting coupled with Pinconning's aggressive approach to the game allowed the Lady Spartans to forge a 48-27 win.

Steady and patient was the pace of the opening quarter as each team worked their half court offense. While the Cougars hit the opening bucket, it was the Spartans' Breanna Bush who set the tone with back-to-back three point shots that put Pinconning out front. Then the Spartans looked to take advantage of the inside game of Lyndsi Lorenz. Muscling the ball inside, Lorenz was able to knock down two shots. But All Saints was ready as they double up Lorenz every time she got the ball stopping her from getting on track and finding open shots. The aggressive physical defense held the score to 10-7 in Pinconning's favor.

The Spartans dialed up the intensity to start the second quarter. Fueled by senior guard Anissa Goretcki's quickness, she stole to straight balls and converted on the breakaways to give Pinconning a fast start. They continued to push the ball up court creating open shots. But All Saints was able to get back on defense challenging the shots to keep Pinconning from pulling away.

All Saints Lizzie Gillard hit a short jumper and followed with the free throw to give the Cougars their first points of the quarter with three minutes to play and pulling them within seven points. But another three from Bush and a steal by Goretcki had Pinconning right back out front. The quarter ended with great excitement as Cougar's Danielle Lutz hit a long two but was answered by the Spartans' Breanna Herner who nailed a buzzer beating three point shot to end the half with Pinconning up 24-12.

A Bush three pointer followed by a Lornez put back jumper got the Spartans off on the right foot to start the second half. In contrast, the Lady Cougars showed good ball movement resulting in many open shots but they couldn't dial into the bottom of the net to help bring them back. Their tight defensive pressure kept Pinconning from running away with the game as the Spartans kept pushing the ball up court but struggled to convert this into points. This offensive pressure by Pinconning wore on All Saints as the fatigue factor started setting in allowing Pinconning to extend their lead to 34-15.

All Saints pulled out all the stops to start the final period. A full court trap press coupled with a trapping zone defense allowed the Cougars to slightly chip away at the Spartan lead by going on a 6-2 run. Then in a blink of an eye, a Bush three pointer followed by two baskets by Goretcki and a put back by Breanna Herner ended any comeback thoughts by the Cougars. Cougar's Danielle Lutz got a late hot hand hitting a long jumper then following it with a three pointer but it was not enough as Pinconning posted a 47-28 win.
