The All Saints Athletic Club has a big goal in the next two months: raise $77,000 for a new bus.

The old vehicle is 23 years old and has given good service -- but parts are getting hard to get it needs to be retired, says Annette Gerulski, president of the club.

The bus will be used for all programs of the Bay Area Catholic Schools and for All Saints academic and other trips, she said.

The 14-member club raises money to support 10 varsity and 6 junior varsity sports teams. That support includes paying coaches salaries, maintenance of facilities, uniforms, travel, etc.

How do club volunteers do it? Well, last Sunday, for instance, the club served 700 persons breakfast at the Knights of Columbus in Essexville.

On Feb. 23 the group's 35th annual Pot O' Gold fundraiser will be held, with funds going toward the bus.

During Lent the club will be helping with fish fries at the Knights of Columbus on River Road.

A mailing has been sent to supporters seeking donations for the project, said Mrs. Gerulski.

"ASC has a unique sports department in that it is funded, completely by income generated at the gate and through the fundraising efforts of our Athletic Club and our coaching staff," said the president.

"No portion of tuition dollars go toward sports programs, nor do we have a 'big daddy' with deep pockets who funds our programs," she added.

"We AC members believe in providing opportunities for our students and the children of the Bay area," she said, adding:

"The process of people supporting people, interacting with people and taking accountability and ownership for that community. That is what makes All Saints High School unique from any other high school in our area--- community and support."

One of the most active club members is former athletic director Jeff Bisel, who still coaches football at the junior high level.

Mr. Bisel sometimes even drives the bus.

Pretty soon he'll have a brand new blue and white bus to put into gear. Go Cougars!!! ###
