"Shopping is a woman thing. It's a contact sport like football. Women enjoy the scrimmage, the noisy crowds, the danger of being trampled to death, and the ecstasy of the purchase."
~ Erma Bombeck

Being a 16 year old boy and shopping with your mom is apparently not a "thing".

I was really looking forward to an afternoon of shopping with my son. Choosing just the right ensemble for an upcoming wedding and spending some real quality time with my boy.

In MY element.

However, we no sooner had we exited the car in the parking lot and he was off. Sprinted in a fashion recruiters for the next track Olympic team would be impressed and might possibly make some valid offers.

That was my first clue.

He nearly trampled a nice looking senior citizen couple in his attempt to get to the trouser aisle, so we could "get in and get out" of the store.

I am not really certain if this aversion to being in the store is a just male thing. (If so, his future Mrs. will not want to suggest vacationing at the Mall of America as she will be sorely disappointed.) Or was it a teen thing and he just didn't want to be seen with his lame-o mother?

At any rate, 11 minutes later, before I had a chance to check out any boot sales or any of the new perfumes at fragrance counter, we were in line paying for his outfit and out the door.

On the way home, he remarked to me that he liked his purchase and he thought his outfit would look really cool. Then he said thanks for taking him shopping.

Is that what that was? Shopping? Really??

Huh....
