Q. How did you get started doing pageants?

A.This was actually my very first pageant. Over the last couple years I had been encouraged by family and friends to become involved. After talking with other title holders I realized that the Miss Bay County Pageant is an affiliate of the Miss America Organization, which is the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. I plan to continue my education after high school and thought this would be a great opportunity.

Q.Can you tell me a little bit about the Miss Bay County Outstanding Teen Pageant?

A. The Miss Bay County Outstanding Teen pageant was a whole new experience for me. Throughout the process I made so many new friends who were also vying for the title. I found that they were all genuine, helpful, and intelligent young ladies. When we were off stage during the pageant, we would joke around, sing some of our favorite songs, and give each other encouragement along the way. The director of Miss Bay County, Linda Bilhimer, not only encourages each of us to be ourselves she makes us feel as though we are part of this wonderful family.

My talent was a song and dance number to "All That Jazz" from the Broadway musical "Chicago." I have a great love of music and love to sing so it made me feel right at home.

As we waited onstage to hear who would be crowned Miss Congeniality and Miss Bay County Outstanding Teen we all linked hands. I felt honored when they announced my name for the Miss Congeniality Award but I believe that every one of the girls was deserving of this. In the moment that I was crowned Miss Bay County Outstanding Teen 2012 I quickly flashed back to all the wonderful memories I made with my new friends and found that I just gained one of the best experiences in my life. I looked out to my family and friends in the audience and felt tears well in my eyes. I was so excited for all the wonderful opportunities that were ahead of me.

Q. Did you imagine you would be as successful as you were in the pageant? Why or why not? A. I didn't really go into the pageant as thinking of it as being a success or not. It was more about the experience and gaining something from it.

Q. What is the preparation like for a pageant? How time consuming is it?

A. There is a lot of work that goes into preparing for the pageant. There are many rehearsals as well as preparing your judges resume and platform statement. I didn't really consider it time consuming as I was having fun. I also learned a lot through the process and met so many people that I now consider to be lifelong friends.

Q. What has your life been like since the pageant? How has it changed your daily routine?

A. Life after the pageant has given me more opportunities to be involved in our community . I don't think it has changed my daily routine but I believe it has enhanced my days. Whether I am going to parades, fundraisers, or to speak about my platform "Think First for Teens" I have found that there is a strong commitment, love, and support for our community.

Q. How do you think competing in pageants has changed you as an individual? What have you taken away from this experience?

A. I believe the Miss Bay County Pageant has taught me to stay true to myself and to believe in myself. I also realized that I represent my community as well as the Miss America Organization. There have been times that younger kids have come up to me and said "you are my role model". It made me feel proud and I realized how much of an impact I have on others.

Q. What new things have been exposed to you because of your participation in this pageant?

A. As Miss Bay County Outstanding Teen I have had many opportunities that I may not have had otherwise. Visiting with children at Hurley Hospital on behalf of the Children's Miracle Network and speaking at community events and schools about my platform "Think First For Teens" are heartwarming experiences. With "Think First" I talk to teenagers about how the choices we make today affect us tomorrow. I recently wrote to Ruth Johnson our Secretary of State and Ray LaHood , Department of Transportation in Washington DC to discuss my thoughts on how we could make the driver's education program better. They both wrote back to me and want to implement my ideas at the state and national level. The pageant has brought me endless opportunities to learn and grow.

Q. In your opinion, what was the best thing about competing in this pageant?

A. Truly the best part of being in the Miss Bay County pageant is all the memories I made and the people I made them with. Q. What are you currently preparing for?

I am currently preparing for the Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen pageant that will be held June 12, 2013 in Muskegon. In addition to completing my Resume and Platform Statement I will be preparing for my judges interview by staying up to date with current events happening around the world and continuing with my vocal lessons for my talent phase. I will also continue to maintain a healthy lifestyle as I will be vying for the Bronze medal " Duke of Edinburgh's Award." This award is a self-development program available to young people worldwide. Participants perform a variety of challenging activities that will equip us with life skills.
