"We are tired of our huts
and the smoky smell of our clothing.
We are sick with the desire for the sun
And the grass on the mountain."
~Paiute Late Winter Song

Call it spring fever, call it boredom, call it doldrums, call it whatever you will, but I am SO over winter.

I've worn all my winter sweaters as many times as I want to wear them. The cable knits and cashmere can kindly return to their storage boxes.

The sooner the better.

I'm exhausted with attempts to stave off static electricity that has actually caused visible sparks when I've touched something. I've humidified my house, used numerous cans of static guard and slathered myself with enough lotion to moisturize the greater portion of the northern hemisphere, to no avail.

The visits to the garage to stare longingly at my bike, itching to take a fast ride along my favorite route, have noticeably increased. While I'm there, I soothingly pat my lonely golf clubs and promise that with any grace from Mother Nature, I'll take them out soon for a spin on the course.

The war with the icy spot directly in front of my side door, which requires infinite attention and a sense of precise timing with temperatures and the cumbersome bag of salt that is backbreaking heavy, has come to an impasse. It was just easier to make sure I have enough liability insurance, than it was constantly struggling for it to remain a slip-free zone.

I am weary of the battles.

So, bring on open windows and fresh air, barbeques, outdoor concerts, thunderstorm warnings, beaches and coconut oil. Give me a cooler full of cold beer with good friends on my deck. I'm ready for flip-flops, the smell of citronella and Sandy's swimming pool, where we spend lazy afternoons floating, tanning and talking about life.

I want my sundresses, ponytails, fireworks, boating, the sound of motorcycles, late night walks, festivals, the smell of fresh cut grass and the brilliant displays of blooming flowers.

I need to feel that I don't have to get into my pajamas and "settle in" by 7 o'clock at night, for cryin' out loud.

It might be asking a lot, living in Michigan and all, but what the heck. It doesn't hurt for a girl to ask, does it?
