Almost 200 business, community, and local governmental leaders braved the snow, wind, and cold to attend the Bay Future, Inc. 8th Annual Meeting on Friday, February 8th, 2013. The event, hosted by Eric Jylha, was held at the DoubleTree Hotel in beautiful Downtown Bay City.

Filled with highlights on projects that Bay Future, Inc. assisted in during 2012, the non-profit public-private partnership announced $301 million in investment in those projects that helped create or retain over 345 jobs in Bay County. Here are just a few of those projects:

  • COPOCO Community Credit Union constructed a new location in Monitor Township in the Valley Center Technology Park. Located on Straits Drive, the new 3,000 square foot branch features four teller stations, two drive thru lanes with video marketing screens and a state of the art video security system. This is the third branch for COPOCO. Bay Future was involved in the project from an early stage, providing demographic information, site location assistance, bringing together local partners and providing information to the company on local contractors.

  • EMCOR, Inc. added $122,023 in new equipment at their Monitor Township operation. The investment will retain four positions and is expected to add two new positions. Emcor, Inc. was established in 1982 and is a manufacturer of precision linear motion actuators (ball screws) for the aerospace/aeronautics, defense, automobile, and medical device industries, among many others. Emcor, Inc. was recognized in 2008 as one the "Michigan 50 Companies to Watch," an awards program sponsored by the Edward Lowe Foundation.

  • Michigan Sugar Company invested nearly $25 million in the Bay City factory to install new beet slicers, pulp presses, consumer powdered and brown sugar packaging equipment, a high pressure boiler, and diffusion tower. All of these investments will add to both increased operational and energy efficiencies. The new packaging equipment will double the company's consumer powdered sugar and brown sugar production capacity and add three jobs. It will also enable greater retail and food service market penetration, which will provide a higher return for their grower-owners. Located in Bay County's Monitor Township, Michigan Sugar was formed in 1906. In 2002, it became a cooperative and is owned by over 1,000 sugar beet growers with factories in Bay City, Caro, Croswell, and Sebewaing.

  • Dow Corning Corporation, based in Williams Township, announced it would invest $117 million at its Auburn manufacturing site in Williams Township, creating 73 jobs. Investments at the Auburn manufacturing facility will take place through 2015. The work will increase advanced manufacturing capacity, expanded research and development capability and pay for infrastructure improvements at the site. The investments also will focus on the development and manufacturing of silicon-based coatings for the electronics industry. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Williams Township and Bay Future, Inc. worked with Dow Corning on incentive packaging and with MDOT and the Bay County Road Commission on infrastructure improvements. This announcement was in addition to the nearly $16 million in investment previously announced in 2012 at their Bay County facilities.
