Thursday Night Fever - The Bee Gees tribute band got the crowd in a disco mood

BIG CROWDS - The Wenona Park Friendship Shell has hosted huge crowds all summer long

The Hubcaps, Thornetta Davis and the Bee Gees rocked our socks at the Downtown Bay City Wenona Park Friendship Shell in July. But the best is yet to come according to Bay Arts Council Director, Diane Middleton.

August Tribute Bands that include Fleetwood Mac (Rumours), Hotel California (The Eagles) as well as a James Brown/Tina Turner rock-a-thon and a return engagement by Phil Dirt and the Dozers are set to perform during the last month of summer in downtown Bay City. Check out the MyBayCityCalendar of Events for times and performance dates.

"This is just (and will be) a grand way to end the summer," Middleton went on to say. "The weather (so far) has been near-perfect," Middleton continued. "The crowds have been wonderful."

The show begins each night at 7:00pm. Gates open at 5:30pm. Admission is $8.00 for adults, $3.00 for children ages 6-12 and kids under 5 are admitted at no charge. All seating is general outdoor lawn seating. Blankets and lawn chairs are welcome. Glass containers and alcohol are not allowed. In case of rain, the concerts will be moved inside at the State Theatre.

Middleton took the helm of the Bay Arts Council as Director in early May of this year. In its 16th season of summer concerts, the Wenona Park location summer music fest has become a tradition in the community. "We offer an exceptional variety of entertainment," Middleton said. "The downtown location is a beautiful venue." Middleton said that it's great having the concerts right downtown in the core business district. "It brings people downtown," Middleton added. "And shows what Bay City has to offer."

Middleton said that the shows could not be successful without the support of the business community. Major sponsors for the 2002 summer series are Labadie Olds Cadillac GMC, Landaal Packaging (Delta Container), Independent Bank and Mobile Medical Response, Inc. (MMR). "In addition to the major sponsors, we have a huge list of sponsors for the individual events that also have to be thankd for their participation," she said.
