GOLF FOR VETS: Benefit Event Slated June 28 at Green Hills

An Inaugural Veterans Benefit Golf Outing is seeking teams for a June 28 event sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart.

Keith Markstrom, organizer heading a six member Veterans Benefit Golf Committee, said the golf event proceeds will benefit homeless vets, the Sailor-Soldier Relief Fund of Bay County, Saginaw VA Medical Center patient needs, the USS Edson Education Fund and the Bay Veteran's Council Honor Guard.

The Bay County Veterans Council has endorsed this event, that will benefit organizations that help veterans and their families in the greater Bay-Saginaw area.

The Veterans Council is made up of American Legion Post 18, American Legion Post 249, AMVETS Post 22, Military Order of the Purple Heart, P.L.A.V. Post 162, VFW Post 6950 and Viet Nam Veterans of Michigan, Chapter 494.

"We ask that you support this event as it is the only golf outing to benefit such organizations in the State of Michigan," said Mr. Markstrom.

Sought are sponsors in several categories: Gold Sponsor Special $125; Old Glory Lunch Sponsors $300 each; Stars and Stripes Dinner Sponsors $250 each.

Non-participant on course sponsorship are available from $25 for honor/memory; red $150, white $100, blue $50, with listings to be on sign boards at the event.

A tee/green contest will be held at each hole.

Cost of the golf outing is $240 per team with a 32 team limit.

The outing will begin with 9 a.m. registration and shotgun start at 10 a.m., said Mr. Markstrom.
