Call the Medical Examiner . . . Somebody's dead.

It's never too messy for the Medical Examiner.

Is it just me, or are there a lot more dead, murdered bodies on TV these days?

Want to get control of your remote?

Set your DVR to tape either of these:
  • The Following,
  • Hannibal
  • Criminal Minds.

    Top/Bottom: McCallum
    Deschanel, Sasha,
    Klugman, Delaney,
    Dushku, Khandi,
    Hennessey & Hurt.
Any one of these are guaranteed to chase the timid or squeamish female spouse away from in front of the TV.

Here's a quick encapsulation for a few of the most-watched shows on TV right now.

The Following -- A non-stop parade of "watching beautiful people getting stabbed or shot."

Hannibal -- The dismembered, impaled, and bullet-riddled bodies are splayed out with sculptural precision.

Criminal Minds -- The first minute . . . enough said.

I think it started with Dexter . . . at least, for me.

And no . . . The Walking Dead is not the same thing -- Those aren't real humans they're shooting . . . the zombies are already dead.

I know I used to cringe and close my eyes (at least squint) and turn away when Dexter carved his shiny knife-point into his next victim's neck, face or shoulder. Back in the old days, blood oozing from a very recent knife wound was the unexpected.

I've heard that some people even faint or throw-up at the sight of blood.

Not today, grasshopper. If there hasn't been a throat-slashing or random body parts strewn across the backdrop before the credits start rolling . . . There's probably not enough people watching . . .

Most Popular Show on TV: NCIS (I'm a big fan)

Maybe I just like Medical Examiners. Now that I think of it, almost every TV drama that I have taken a serious liking to nowadays, has a Medical Examiner . . . who cuts open a body every week . . . doing an autopsy.

    Let's review recent "Favorite Shows."

  • Dr. Temperance Brennan (Emily Deschanel). . . Bones
  • Dr. Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) . . . Rizzoli & Isles
  • Dr. Megan Hunt (Dana Delaney) . . . Body of Proof
  • Dr. Don "Ducky" Mallard (David McCallum) . . . NCIS

    But wait . . . There's more . . .

Remember Dr. Jill Hennessey from Crossing Jordan. How about Khandi Alexander as Dr. Alexx Woods on CSI? One more: Jack Klugman as Quincy? And still another: Eliza Dushku as Tru Davies on Tru Calling? Maybe all the stars of all the CSI's were Medical Examiners. (We won't be fooled again . . . )

    The list is seemingly endless.

    How about locally?

Chief Medical Examiner for Bay County (Bay City) Michigan is Dr. Howard Hurt, DO. Follow This Link for everything you ever wanted/needed to know about "ACCIDENTAL DEATH" here in Bay County, Michigan.

According to the Bay County Web Site: "The Chief M.E is appointed by the Board of Commissioners and assisted by deputy medical examiners. This licensed physician detects the cause and manner of sudden and unexpected, accidental, violent and suspicious deaths in Bay County. Results of these investigations provide valuable information used by the justice system, families and other concerned parties."

WORD OF WARNING: Don't click on the AUTOPSY links.

The gore and blood will likely continue to flow across my TV screen. High-heeled and quirky Medical Examiners will continue to come out of the woodwork to solve cases for those of less intelligence.

If . . . as they say . . . art imitates life . . . none of us are long for this blood-stained world.

Looking more closely at the tower of Medical Examiners . . . It's a veritable Hall of Fame.

    But hey . . . where's the M.E. for "The Following?"
