McLaren Bay Medical Foundation Helps Victims of Sexual Assault

Bay City, MI - The Bay Area Women's Center (BAWC) has announced the purchase of an examination table/chair to be used for exams of sexual assault victims by their specially trained nurses in the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. The purchase was made possible through a grant request made by the Bay Area Women's Center to McLaren Bay Medical Foundation.
Kathy Allen, Executive Director, Bay Area Women's Center, said, "McLaren Bay Medical Foundation very generously provided Bay Area Women's Center with the exam chair which replaced a chair that was leaking oil and causing an unsafe situation for our clients and nurses. The SANE program offers a non-threatening and supportive environment to both adult and children who are survivors of sexual violence. We feel very fortunate to be in the position to provide this service to our community and want to thank McLaren Bay Medical Foundation for supporting our efforts."
In 2011, the Bay Area Women's Center conducted 39 adult exams and 47 pediatric (under the age of 12) exams. In 2011, 36 adult exams and 20 pediatric exams were conducted. BAWC serves women, men, children and families in an effort to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault in Bay and Arenac counties.

Felan continued, "Those who have been victims of unspeakable acts should have access to the best possible medical equipment. Our Board of Directors was eager to approve the full funding for a new examination chair/table for the Bay Area Women's Center."
The Bay Area Women's Center is holding a "Community Partners Day" on Fri., April 26, 2013 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at 3411 E. Midland Rd., Bay City.
