Saginaw Bay Symphony will perform a pops concert for the entire family at the Wenonah Park Friendship Shell Sunday (July 17) at 4:00 pm
 

Downtown Bay City is pleased to announce a very special event in Wenonah Park, "PICNIC & POPS IN THE PARK". In the tradition of the Boston Pops, the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra will be performing a pops concert for the entire family at the Wenonah Park Friendship Shell at 4:00 p.m. The Pops in the Park Concert is generously sponsored by SC Johnson Company of Bay City.

On the program are Henry Mancini's The Pink Panther and Superman March by John Williams. Adults and children alike will enjoy the Overture of William Tell, (The Lone Ranger), The Typewriter by Anderson and Where Eagles Dare by Goodwin, among other selections.

Maestro Patrick Flynn will entice the youngsters to the stage to dance to Hoe-Down from Rodeo by Copland. Then, everyone can join the orchestra with a spirited rendition of Stars and Stripes. Savor thesights and sounds of Bay City's downtown and waterfront, and enjoy the strains of the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra over the river.


The entire day will be filled with surprises. Stop, look and listen for "Random Acts of Music". Positioned throughout Downtown Bay City's waterfront shopping and dining area, orchestra musicians will serenade passers-by, adding to the festive air of a summer afternoon in Michigan. Scheduled performers and locations include:

· String Quartet (Mary Margaret St. John, Susan Friedman, Antione Hackney, Alexis Turkalo) corner of Water and Third Streets in front of the Atrium· Flutée (Flute Quartet - Mary Anderson, Kim J. Teal, Pamela Rowe, Lauren Rongo) in the garden at Violet's Blue, 115 Fourth Street· Strolling Violins (Rod and Nathan Bieber) along Center Avenue and Saginaw Street· Oboe/Clarinet/Bassoon Trio (Nancy Ambrose, Bill King, Jeffrey McCray) next to Studio 23, 901 Water Street, Sponsored by Gregory Construction· French Horn Duo (Robin Von Wald, Melanie Hellick), corner of Center Avenue and Saginaw· Solo Piano (Catherine McMichael) inside Bay City Coffee & Tea, 810 Saginaw Street

Be ready to picnic! Participating restaurants throughout Downtown Bay City will be selling special picnic box lunches for this event. The lunch choices are designed to be enjoyed while lounging on a blanket along the riverfront and include such items as: Brat w/Kraut on a Deli Bun from the Stein Haus; Raspberry Turkey Wrap from Gatsby's Saloon & Eatery; and create your own Brunch in a Box from the Sunday Buffets at the Atrium and Kingfish Restaurants.

Flyers will be available throughout downtown with a map, phone numbers, and box lunch menu selections for the participating restaurants. The eateries suggest calling ahead so everything will be ready for you - napkins and utensils provided!

Many of the unique specialty and antique shops will be open for browsing while you stroll through the streets before the concert enjoying Random Acts of Music. Plus, various downtown restaurants will also be open on Sunday to welcome you for inside dining.

Tickets can be purchased through the SBSO Offices, 989-755-6471, at the Bay Arts Council, 915 Washington Avenue, Bay City, Herter Music Center, 2495 Tittabawassee, Saginaw, and at the gate on the day of the event:$8 adults - $3 6-12 - 5 & under free

This great family event was created by a partnership of the Bay City Downtown Management Board, the Bay Arts Council, and the Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra.
