All the signs are pointing to the fact that this could be a very good Garber football team. From the opening kickoff, the Dukes left no doubt that they have the speed, skills and toughness to do more than just challenge for the TVC East championship. After Thursday night's opening performance, no doubt their opponents will be working overtime to figure out how to slow down this attack as the Dukes posted a 62-14 win in Pinconning.

It only took twelve seconds for Garber to get on the board as senior Sean Reilly returned the opening kickoff 79 yards for a Duke touchdown. Brady Wieland's kick, a perfect 8 for 8 on the night, made it 7-0.

After stalling on the initial drive, Pinconning got the first brake of the game recovering a Duke fumble in Garber territory. Spartan QB Michael Wilson wasted little time as he found Zachary Booth on a 29 yard scoring strike. Garber blocked the extra point, one of many big plays on special teams all night, preserving the initial lead at 7-6.

Following a short kick, Garber showed their speed and talent as they went on the attack. Utilizing the veer offense, they used the between the tackles power running or Noah Bargouthy along with the outside speed of Simeon Berry all orchestrated by talented sophomore QB Logan Martin to keep Pinconning off balance and march down the field. Martin scored on an option keep from eleven yards out making it 14-6.

Garber would continued rattling off forty nine straight points deep into the third quarter. Still in the first quarter, Bargouthy took an inside handoff and bounced it outside to scamper from the Duke twenty nine yard line to Pinconning's thirty six before being run out of bounds. The Dukes continued to pound the middle of the field before Martin broke tackles to score from ten yards out making it 21-6 at the end of the first quarter.

Miscues hampered Pinconning from getting anything started. After starting from their own twenty four yard line, a high snap pushed them back to their eleven. When the punt was nearly blocked, Reilly picked up the ball in front of the Spartan bench and, avoiding numerous tackle attempts, broke loose to carry the ball to the one yard line. Adrian Ducrete then punched it in from the one making it 28-6.

Garber then blocked the punt on Pinconning's next possession giving them the ball on the Spartan five. Martin make quick work of this possession hooking up with speedster CJ Glaza on a five yard touchdown strike raising the lead to 35-6.

Reilly appeared to have added another return score when he fielded the punt and, breaking right, took it the distance. But a penalty negated the apparent score giving Garber the ball on their forty yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Martin burst around end, side stepping a couple Spartans and ran 60 yards for his third score of the night making it 42-6 at the half.

The second half was played with a running clock. After stopping Pinconning on their opening possession of the half, Reilly kept things going for Garber. Receiving the punt and after appearing to be stopped, he broke loose 67 yards for his second official touchdown of the night increasing the Duke margin to 49-6. A tipped pass in the Spartan backfield was intercepted giving Garber great field position that Martin quickly capitalized on. On the next play, Martin took an option keep and bolted 30 yards for a 56-6 lead late in the third quarter.

Pinconning took advantage on one of the few breaks they got all night. After Garber took two penalties forcing their kickoff deep in their territory, Wilson orchestrated a nice scoring drive. Jacob Bouchard finished the drive off with a touchdown run from the two. Wilson then hit Booth for a two point conversion making it 56-14.

Garber finished off the night's scoring with a nice drive in the fourth. Staying on the ground, the Duke offense drove down field with Ducre notching his second touchdown giving a final score of 62-14.

Sophomore signal caller, Logan Martin, spearheaded the Duke attack rushing for 180 yards on 13 carries including four touchdowns. Noah Bargouthy added 89 yards on just six carries while fullback Adrian Ducrete punched the ball in for two scores. Sean Reilly excited the crowd with 229 return yards including a kickoff and a punt return for touchdowns.

Michael Wilson led the Spartan attach throwing for 50 yards and a touchdown and rushing for 32 yards.

The big test for Garber comes next week as they host always tough Millington in an early TVC showdown at Garber. Pinconning travels to Sanford Meridian.
