For the last two years the Bay City Noon Optimist Club volunteered through the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce's Reading is Bay County Business program to read to the students of Washington Elementary School.

As a result, members of the Bay City Noon Optimist Club became familiar with the students and staff at Washington Elementary School. Club members, who were looking at new ways to support local schools, met with Judy Cox, outgoing Washington Principal, and Jamie Doran, incoming Principal, and discussed the needs of the school and how the Bay City Noon Optimist Club could assist them. It was decided that they could use a washer and dryer.

Jo Ellen Strieter, Past President of the Bay City Noon Optimist Club and Vice President of your Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, then contacted long standing Chamber Member, Stambaugh Appliance, and asked for any assistance they could give the Bay City Noon Optimist Club in this project. An arrangement was made, and on September 5, representatives of Stambaugh Appliance, the Bay City Noon Optimist Club, Bay Area Chamber of Commerce and others will hand deliver the washer, dryer and $100 gift card for laundry supplies to Washington Elementary School.

This is just one example of how community groups and individuals can work with local school leaders to help improve the quality of education for our children.

A primary goal of your Bay Area Chamber of Commerce is to institute effective programs emphasizing partnership connections between Bay County Businesses and area schools.

We urge you and the community organizations you are involved with, to look at the positive work of Optimist, Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis and our other local service clubs that are committed to improving education in Bay County by committing their time and financial resources.

Together...We make the difference!
