Probably a thousand people came to Wenona Park on Wednesday the 20th to hear Paul King and the Rhythm Society Orchestra, an authentic Big Band specializing in Swing, Fox Trot & Latin music. The concert opened with a Frank Sinatra tune then movedon to Bing Crosby, Gene Austin, Benny Goodman, Glen Miller and so many more of the giants from the Bid Band era.

The the relief of all, the weather was plesant with a nice breeze off the river. There was a slight threat of rain and during thefirst half it did sprinkle a bit but only a few people left. During intermission the sun broke through giving a beautiful sunset and presenting a double rainbow in the East.

Big Band Swing style music has away of getting people out of their seats and onto a dance floor. A concert in the park is no exception. Throughout the performance there were always several, sometimes as many as eight, couples on the pavement in front of the stage dancing. The enthusastic applause may have been as much for the dancers as the band.

The concerts in the park draw people from all over. Pamela Werling of Detroit brought her bridesmaids for a bachlorette party in the park. She's marrying a Midland man this weekend. Bridesmaid Heidi Schuitman, raised in Bay City and now living in Midland, may have had some influence on bringing the party to Bay City.

The Wednesday's in the Park continues through the rest of the summer. Upcoming events include:
