THIS WEEK'S PROGRAM:
District Gov. Dalton Coe will visit the club. Coe will meet with committee chairs and the club's board and officers before the meeting.

The club will also welcome Ambassadorial Scholar Melinda Boysik who has taken up residence and will be attending SVSU.

Micro-Park Vandalized:Tuesday's meeting started on a less than happy note when it was reported that the Rotay Micro-Park beside the Planetarium was vandalized. Someone shattered the glass destroying the picture which was the centerpiece of the park. In response, the club authorized a reward of $250 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Candace Bales assured the club that insurance will cover the replacement of the glass picture and Shirley Roberts said that this setback will not change the plans for additional parks in the downtown area.

International Night Tickets are now available. Mike Stoner reported on the sponsors currently on board for the event and noted that half of the funds raised by the event come from these sponsorships. He encouraged everyone to consider this level of support.

Rev. Jeffrey Weenink introduced his guest the Rev. Dr. Seong Lew from South Korea. Weenink and Lew have participated in visits and missions between the two countries for several years.

Anita Bowden read a letter from our twin club in Zekeriakoy, Turkey. They have published the cookbook which was reported on several months ago. The book, which was passed around the room, is printed in both Turkish and English.

LAST WEEK:Member Dee Dee Wacksman, dressed in a period outfit, presented a program on the history and current status of the Trombley House. The oldest frame house in Bay City, the Trombley House was built between 1835 and 1837. The land was purchased from the United States government and the deed was signed by President Andrew Jackwon.

The house was built by Bay City pioneers Joseph and Mader Trombley. The brothers were attracted to the Saginaw Valley for its fishing, fur trading, and land speculation opportunities. At the time the area was largely inhabited by Native Americans.

The house served many purposes in its time. It was originally a single family home. Later it served as a boarding house and perhaps a trading post. Being one of the largest homes in the area, it was a popular meeting place for many years.

The house was constructed by one Nathan Case from Saginaw using local oak milled in Arenac. Limestone for the foundation came from Charity Island.

In 1981 the house, already on the National Register of Historic Places, was threatened with demolotion at it's original location. A group of citizens and local groups, including the Rotary Club, the City, the Kanzler Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce came together to save the structure and move it north to its current location in the park. The house was actually brought down the river on a barge.

Trombley House is now owned and maintained by the Bay County Historic Society. The house is used for educational presentations, meetings and many other events. The building has an original kitchen with working wood store as wellas a modern kitchen which can be used when meetings are held in the building.

As with any old house or building, there is always maintenance to be done. As a historic structure, the work is more difficult and expensive because work must be historically accurate. Current projects include adding exhibits and furnishings. At some time the Society hopes to open the third floor. The most pressing issue at the present time is the repair of the roof. Almost $40,000 has been raised but $20,000 more is needed.
