Positive Patient Survey Nets Bay Regional Medical Center National Award

J.D. Power & Associates Honor Given For Outstanding Patient Experience

Bay Regional Medical Center is the 1st regional hospital to receive the J.D. Power and Associates distinction for providing an outstanding patient experience.
 

Bay Regional Medical Center's staff, physicians, volunteers, and administrators were recognized for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital ProgramSM at an award ceremony held recently at the hospital.

Bay Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in the region, and is among an elite group of hospitals in the nation, to receive the J.D. Power and Associates distinction for providing an outstanding patient experience.

Presenting the award tohospital officials was Steven D. Wood, Ph.D., senior vice president and general manager, J.D. Power and Associates Healthcare Division.

"This is an exceptional achievement for Bay Regional Medical Center," said Wood. "Based on the rigorous standards of our national hospital service performance research, only 20 percent of the hospitals in the nation will qualify to achieve this distinction.

"Bay Regional Medical Center's caregivers, physicians and administrative staff are to be commended for their outstanding contributions to the care and health of their community."

Accepting the award on behalf of Bay Regional Medical Center were employees Patti Krenz, RN, Margie Goik, LPN, Robert N. Wright, president and chief executive officer, William R. Bowen, chairman of the hospital's board of trustees, and Alice Gerard, vice president of Patient Care Services.

"Everyone at Bay Regional Medical Center is very honored to receive this recognition for providing exemplarypatient care," said Robert N. Wright, president and C.E.O., Bay Regional Medical Center. "Our focus is on serving the needs of our patients as we pursue high quality outcomes in all areas of health care."

The distinction was determined in a J.D. Power and Associates telephone survey of randomly selected patients discharged from Bay Regional Medical Center. Results were compared to a national benchmark established by the J.D. Power and Associates annual Hospital Service Performance Study.SM

Bay Regional Medical Center exceeded the national study benchmark level of patient satisfaction in each of five areas and scored among the top 20 percent of hospitals surveyed in the United States.

Compared to the national benchmark,Bay Regional Medical Center performed very well in providing care to patients with speed and efficiency. Patients were highly pleased with their doctors' communication about their condition and treatment, as well as providing a clear explanation of how to manage care after leaving the hospital.

Additionally, a majority of patients at Bay Regional Medical Center reported higher levels of trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent stay.

Bay Regional Medical Center of Bay City is part of McLaren Health Care, mid-Michigan's largest health care system. The McLaren system serves a 25-county region, employs 12,000, and has annual revenues in excess of $1.5 billion. McLaren's staff of 1,600 physicians is one of the largest in Michigan.

Bay Regional Medical Center Welcomes Rehabilitation Staff

Bay Regional Medical Center recently welcomed Greta Dijak, Physical Therapist, to the Department of Rehab Services. Ms. Dijak graduated from Oakland University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. She has over 15 years of experience in Physical Therapy and will be working in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at West Campus.

Physical Therapy services are available on an outpatient basis through the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road, Bay City; Medical Mall, 1454 W. Center, Essexville; Auburn Rehabilitation Center, 312 E. Midland Road, Auburn; and the Pinconning Rehabilitation Center, 4293 Huron Road, Pinconning.

Bay Regional Medical Center's Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is located at the West Campus, 3250 E. Midland Road, Bay City and also at 1900 Columbus Avenue, Bay City.

BRMC Continues Caring Tree Community Tradition

The Caring Tree, a 21-year tradition at Bay Regional Medical Center, gives hospital employees the opportunity to make a difference in the life of a Bay Area family.

Caring Trees with special "wish list" stockings will be decorated November 21 in the main campus lobby of Bay Regional Medical Center at 1900 Columbus Avenue in Bay City, the West Campus lobby at 3250 E. Midland Road, Bay City, and the Medical Mallat 1454 W. Center Road in Essexville and the Lincoln Center, 820 S. Lincoln.

Employees can take a stocking from the tree, purchase the items listed on the stocking, wrap the gift with the stocking securely taped to the outside (without bows), and return the gift to the tree by December 12. Employees and volunteers will distribute the gifts.

Cash donations are also being accepted to purchase requests that remain unfilled at the end of the gift drive. This money is also used to make family gift bags containing personal items.
