It was a stellar year for independent film at the ninth annual Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival in Bay City, MI. Jurors, audiences and programmers chose their favorites from the carefully curated selection of narrative features, documentaries, foreign language and short films. The festival included films from four continents and had directors, actors, screenwriters and producers in attendance representing their films.

Audience Awards:

"Fest Best" is the top audience award. It's the film with the highest vote rating and is elevated above all film categories. The winner is hilarious ensemble comedy "The Bachelor Weekend" from Ireland.

"Best Documentary" is "An Honest Liar", the biopic of the Amazing Randi (James Randi), renowned stage magician turned scientific skeptic of the paranormal.

"Best Narrative Feature" is "Before I Disappear", a creative drama loaded with great music and an amazing cast.

"Best Foreign Language Film" is "Málmhaus (aka Metalhead)", an intense and cinematically beautiful Icelandic drama, with music and loss at it's heart.

"Best Short Film" is "The Gunfighter", the hilarious second film from director Eric Kissack who was last at Hell's Half Mile with his feature film "Love, Sex and Missed Connections".

The Hell's Half Mile Programmers chose for its "Stand Out Award" the short film "Universal Language" from director Kirsten Russell, who was in Bay City in 2013 with her feature film "Rabbit Stories". The HHM Stand Out Award is the film programmers feel best represents the independent spirit of the festival.
