Volunteers in period dress and a familiar old gentleman are ready to entertain Trombley House guests again this season.

Trombley Centre House, the oldest frame house in Bay City, a historic 169 years old, offers visitors a unique perspective on the Christmas holidays.

You can catch the flavor of life in the pioneer days of Bay City for it has been around a longtime. Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) was President when Trombley House was built.

Gen. Jackson won't be on hand to greet you, of course, but some dedicated volunteers of the Bay County Historical Society will provide an ante-bellum holiday welcome.

Neither will the voyageurs who brought the furs trapped by the Indians to Trombley House to trade with the Trombleys and the American Fur Company of John Jacob Astor.

But you can expect to see volunteers in period dress who will provide interpretive information about Bay City's most historic structure.

Trombley House was acquired by the Bay County Historical Society and was moved from 24th and Water to its present location in 1978 under sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Bay City. Restoration of the building is an ongoing project, headed by Mrs. Wacksman.

"This historic house will be open for visitors to stop by for a cup of cocoa and to enjoy the ambiance of an 1800s house decorated for the holidays," says DeeDee Wacksman, local historic maven and chief volunteer sponsor of Trombley House.

Visit the parlor where the Trombley and McCormick families entertained guests and view old fashioned dolls and toys. Play a game with your children. Enjoy a cup of cocoa and a cookie.

The aroma of food prepared on a wood stove will waft from the kitchen, where boarders at the ancient trading post once shared meals, Mrs. Wacksman pointed out.

Trombley House, once located at 24th and Water streets, has long been known for its hospitality, she noted, commenting: "We hope you will join us for a spell."

Visiting hours at Trombley House are 7-9 p.m. on Fridays, Dec. 2, 9, and 16. On Saturday, Dec. 3 and 10, Trombley House will present "Breakfast with Santa." Tickets for the pancakes and sausage breakfast are $5 per adult and children, limited to those over age 3, and may be purchased at the Bay County Historical Museum, 321 Washington Ave. Reservations are necessary because space is limited.

Trombley-Centre House is located at 901 John F. Kennedy Drive, in Veterans Memorial Park. For more information please call 893-5733 or 892-1136.###
