Bijou Orchestra will offer Classical, Pop, Gospel and Klezmer Mix -- providing something for every musical taste.

Holiday music to suit every taste is on the program for the Third Annual Holiday Pops presented by The Bijou Orchestra. The performance will be held on Wednesday, December 7 and Friday, December 9 at the beautiful Scottish Rite Masonic Auditorium at 7:30 PM in Bay City. The show is sponsored by Bay Regional Medical Center.

"We hope there is something for everybody inthis year's Holiday Pops," says Leo Najar, artistic director for the orchestra. "America's many December holiday traditions offer a rich mix musical mix for exploration.

Our program includes classical selections from Bach and Tchaikovsky to modern favorites by Mannheim Steamroller, and plenty from in-between."

New to this year's program is the addition of a handbell choir. The bell choir from First United Methodist Church in Saginaw traveled to the national convention of American Guild of English Handbell Ringers where they performed Allegro Glorioso, written by their director and Bijou Orchestra pianist Catherine McMichael.

The work was selected by the Guild as the winner of their first prize for new works in honor of Guild's 50th anniversary.

Several other musical guests will join The Bijou Orchestra as well. Kelly McDermott is the flutist of the Bijou. Raised in Bay City, she spent nearly two decades as one of Philadelphia's top free-lance flutists.

Ten year old violinist Nathan Bieber will perform the first movement of Bach's Double Violin Concerto with his father, Roderick Bieber as well as joining noted traditional fiddle player Andy Rogers for the annual set of Klezmer favorites that reveal yet another facet of The Bijou repertoire.

Soprano Amy Hughes is well-known as the director of the choral program at Bay City Central High School, and she is an accomplished singer in her own right. In addition to appearing as soloist, she will direct two choruses that will add their voices to the concerts. Bay City Central High School's Varsity Choir and Resounding Harmony are part of one of Michigan's very finest high school choir programs. They will sing both traditional and modernselections with the orchestra.

The performances will take place in the beautiful neo-Gothic Scottish Rite Masonic Auditorium in downtown Bay City. The comfortable amphitheater seating allows excellent sightlines and its warm woodwork adds a lovely glow to the setting.

Tickets are available at the orchestra's box office, which is located at 917 Washington Avenue, Bay City. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday from Noon to 5:30 PM, and its phone number is (989) 892-4200. Tickets may also be purchased online at http://www.www.BijouOrchestra.org

The Bijou Orchestra takes its name from the Bijou Theater, one of the earliest Bay City theaters, which later became known as the Bay and eventually the State.

The ensemble is composed of thirteen outstanding musicians drawn from Michigan and beyond to perform in this challenging medium in which every player is a soloist.

The orchestra is supported in part by grants from the Michigan Council for theArts and Cultural Affairs, the Russell H. & Maxine E. Smith Foundation, the Bay Area Community Fondation and the Kantzler Foundation of Bay City.
