BAY CITY YMCA HOSTS BRIGHAM CLASSIC PADDLEBALL TOURNAMENT

The N.P.A. (National Paddleball Association) kicked off it's 85th year (1930-2015) with the Brigham Classic Paddleball Tournament at the Dow Bay Area Family Y this past week end.

The tournament is named after paddleball player, promoter, and tournament director Lorri Brigham. Just over 40 players from around Michigan filled the four courts with lots of action on Saturday and Sunday. The doubles teams competed in 7 divisions.

In the Open Division, Bay City's Chad Krager and Saginaw's Andrew Price defended their title by defeating East Lansing's Brandon Creamer and Kalamazoo's Don Kirkconnell 21-12, 21-4 in the finals.

This was Krager's 4th win at Bay City. Krager won in 2010 with Creamer, 2008 1st with Negrete and in 2007 1st with Mike "Wiz" Wisniewski.

In the "A" Division, Ann Arbor's Jim Owens and Jackson's Robert Stone won by forfeit.

In the "B" Division, Ann Arbor's Rick Clewis and Kalamazoo's Alex Westervelt out-scored Bay City's Pat O'Shea and Bill Jamrog 21-17, 21-7. Bay City's Ralph Trepkowski and Norm Halstead finished third. In the "C" Division, Rick Clewis won a second title with Jackson's Chris Burke out-shooting Saginaw's team of Nathan Kauffman and Larry Jerman 21-14, 21-17.

In the 35 over Division, Kalamazoo's Andy Mitchell and Don Kirkconnell defeated E. Lansing's Brandon Creamer and Kalamazoo's Ed Maher 21-15, 21-19.

In the 45 over Division, Ed Maher and Robert Stone defeated E. Lansing's Chris Johnson and Ann Arbor's Jeff Rayburn 21-13, 21-19 in the finals.

In the 55 over Division, Ann Arbor's Jim Sterken and Jim Swendris defended their title against Bay City's Randy Wackerle and Sandy DeGrief 21-2, 21-7.
