Bay Regional Medical Center Lists Support Groups, Classes

Bay Regional Medical Center offers a variety of support groups for the community. A summary is listed below:

  • Precious Reflections, a pregnancy and infant loss support group will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 3, from 7-9 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 S. Lincoln. The support group is open to parents and their support persons who have suffered a loss during pregnancy through miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, SIDS, or the death of a newborn. This support group is offered free of charge. For more information, call (989) 894-3015.


  • The New Parent Support Group will meet Tuesday, Jan. 3 and 17, from 1-2 p.m. in the Childbirth Education Classroom at the Women's Health Pavilion on Bay Regional Medical Center's West Campus, 3175 W. Professional Drive. The New Parent Support Group is a supportive and educational program open to parents with infants, age birth to three months. This program offers parents an opportunity to meet with other new parents who are experiencing the demands of taking care of a newborn. Becky Morgan, Childbirth Educator, will be the facilitator. There is no fee to participate in this program. For more information, call (989) 894-3935.

  • The Bay Area Cancer Support Group, will meet on the first and third Thursday each month - January 4 and 18, from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. in Conference Rooms A & B at the Center for Rehabilitation, BRMC West Campus, 3190 East Midland Road. This group offers a friendly environment to allow open discussion for patients, families, and friends who are dealing with cancer. A nurse practitioner and a registered social worker facilitate this group. Participants can learn about the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as learn new coping skills.   • Caring for Others -- For individuals who have the responsibility of taking care of others, whether it is a family member or friend. Caring for Others will meet on January 11 and 25 at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road. The group meets from 7-8 p.m. This support group is offered free of charge. For more information, please contact Karen Pabalis, at (989) 667-6636.

  • The Fibromyalgia Support Group, sponsored by Bay Regional Medical Center, will take place Tuesday, Jan. 31 from 6-7 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road. The Fibromyalgia Support Group was formed to provide support and information for individuals with fibromyalgia. There is no charge for the program and family members are encouraged to attend. Beth Brewer, OTR, from the Center for Rehabilitation, coordinates the group. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information, please call (989) 667-6600.

  • The Bay Area Laryngectomy Health & Help Support Group will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 3-4 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road. The Bay Area Laryngectomy Health & Help Support Group was formed to provide support and information for individuals who have had a laryngectomy. There is no charge for the program and family members are encouraged to attend. For more information, please call (989) 667-6600. Mary Grant, Speech and Language Pathologist from the Center for Rehabilitation, coordinates the support group.

  • The Depression After Delivery Support Group will meet on Thursday, Jan. 12 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Bay Regional Medical Center West Campus, Women's Health Pavilion, Childbirth Education Classroom, 3175 W. Professional Drive. The group is open to pregnant women who are experiencing depression or who have a history of postpartum depression, women who have infants and are experiencing symptoms or postpartum depression, women who are having difficulty coping with the challenges of being a new mom, and also to significant others who are supporting a woman with postpartum depression. There is no cost to attend. For more information, call (989) 895-2240 or 1-800-327-4693 and ask to speak to an Infant Mental Health Specialist.

  • The Type 2 Diabetes Support Group will meet on Wednesday, January 18 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 S. Lincoln. "Exercises for Anyone" will be presented by Chris Morossi, Occupational Therapist and Holly Nickless, Occupational Therapist. Pre-registration is not necessary. Just come and join us for information, support and fun! Feel free to bring a family member or friend. This support group is provided as a free service of the Outpatient Diabetes Education Program.   • Bay Area Stroke Support Group

    The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 E. Midland Road.

    The Bay Area Stroke Support Group was formed to provide support and information for individuals who have had a stroke. There is no charge for the program and family members are encouraged to attend. For more information, please call Cynthia Olenick at (989) 667-6736.

  • The Amputee Support Group will meet on Wednesday, January 18, 2006, from 3 to p.m. at the Center for Rehabilitation, 3190 East Midland Road in Bay City.

    The Amputee Support Group was formed to provide support and information for individuals with an amputation. There is no charge for the program and family members are encouraged to attend. For more information, please call Cynthia Olenick at (989) 667-6736.

    Mini-Gastric Bypass Support Group

    The Mini-Gastric Bypass Support Group will meet on Monday, January 9, 2006 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at the Lincoln Center, 820 S. Lincoln.

    This support group is designed for people who have had mini-gastric bypass surgery or for those who are interested in the process.

    Family members and friends may also attend. There is no charge for the support group.

    Diabetes Education Classes

    A Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is offered through Bay Regional Medical Center.

    Sessions with a diabetes education nurse and registered dietitian are offered weekly.

    Topics include diabetes diagnosis and progression, meal planning and carbohydrate counting, knowing your numbers, preventing complications, stress management and goal setting.

    Our Diabetes Self-Care Education Program is certified by the State of Michigan Department of Community Health and has met the National Standards of the American Diabetes Association.

    Classes are held at the Lincoln Center, 820 South Lincoln, Bay City. For more information, please call (989) 894-8628.

    Bay Regional Medical Center offers a variety of prenatal programsfor expectant parents. Classes include:
